Trying to follow Drubbing's act is like trying to get sense out of an Eagle supporter..you can't.
(By the way, Drubbing, that was top shelf, son.) (and WHERE is Mish?)
But it did get the addled oos braincells in motion.

Someone had to have something to say about Sunday's game. But more importantly, dare to suggest what it means...
We've had false dawns (2nd half of 2006) and Messiahs - Modra, Pavlich and Wiz - who were going to win us a premiership of their own boot. Bad luck, no luck, and good luck that went bad before we got any good out of it. We've embraced a victim complex, an inferiority complex and 14 different kind of complexes about having a complex, and turned it all into a celebration of quirky uniqueness.
The umps and AFL have noticed this and obliged along the way, adding to the pathological house-hoarding of complexes. We've had umpire marks, games almost pinched off us well after they've finished, umpire's checking with the opposition as to what they should do... a woeful tribunal/report record, with our latest goal sneak being pinged (despite being the wrong colour) for Assault by Fingertips... the list goes on, and it will.
Mostly though, on and off, except for some extended purple patches, we've sucked a fair bit too, which makes you a soft target for oxygen thieves like Robert Walls, anyone with a mic at 6PR, and social misfits forced to write sports copy through a fug of liquid lunches, and a tenuous grip on the facsimile they call reality over at the West, or the Sunday paper I can't remember the name of, but has lot of adverts in it.

Can you predict, with certainty? Would you know football clubs' positions on the AFL ladder come the end of Round 22? Of course not. (By the way, if a resounding "Yes!" bounced around your noggin as you read this intro, you need help. Medical help; and now.)
However, the popular theory of The Wisdom of Crowds suggest that you (singular) cannot, whereas you (plural) do have this knowledge. Perhaps this is just a modern take on Emile Durkheim's "collective consciousness", so let's put it to the test.

Middle of a heatwave, Perth style. All of us are drawn, despite our better judgement, into commenting on the weather. The full spectrum of inanities are being tossed about with gay abandon and none of us seem to give a flying fat rat's about it. It's 'kin hot, eh?

It's that time of the year... if you bend the definition of purple a bit, and bending things a bit, like perception and the space time continuum is where it's at, folks. The jacarandas are in bloom... little splashes of purple are all over the shop like a gentle reminder of something we care about.

With the dust settling from the season, the rear view has become a little clearer. Our main themes to carry away from the 6-16 season is the initiation of youngsters, road headaches and the interesting situation of Chris Tarrant.
So, with five players re-signed, and several others moved on, the offseason is taking shape. Its now time to get that to do list out and ready to mark items off as we go.
1. Hasleby; ok so we now know a one year deal is on the cards regardless of what everyone wants or thinks. If its only a case of $10,000 its surely close to being done and dusted, how about some free advertising for seaview, lets hope this is over quickly

How can this be the same Freo? A 63 point loss to the wooden spooners, then a week later a smashing of a top eight side who beat the premiership favourite that same seven days earlier. Surely part of this dramatic turn around is probably a side-effect of a young, inexperienced but talented side.
But one obvious addition that sparked the forward line into life was the presence of that electric live wire number 17. Credit has to be given now for the club to take the then 21 year old in the draft. Ballentyne has the determination, heart and drive that could symbolize what this club could become. While sometimes you wish he would stay down and use his crumbing skills, his ability to attack the footy in the air and on the turf is really something. And the perfect contrast to the excitement machine was the return of another Hayden in defence. His reliable, cool head was such a relief.
Freo had winners everywhere, Sandi dominated, Haze shut down Jobe Watson, Duffield was superb, Pearce damaging, Mundy creative and Ibbitson brilliant. But it was clear the man that really had a day was Nic Suban. The youngster was in a zone, 25 posessions and two great goals including one bizare hand on face celebration. Essendon's speed has been a talking point over east all year but Freo blazed through the corrider thanks to some sensational rucking and clever roving from a number of players.

I dunno, it's been a funny old year so far and it's only August. Of course, in the footy fan's calender, that means the year is just about shot to bits. For mine, there doesn't appear to be that redeeming light at the end of the tunnel. I haven't blogged in due to outside influences...

Two steps forward, one step back. Thats what Sunday afternoon feels like after a disappointing 63 point loss to Melbourne. Going into the game Im sure most fans felt confident, despite the away record. Good win last week, youngsters growing in confidence, lots of Melbourne injuries. But, after a good start, it seems like the Dees figured out how to shut down the corrider so easily, totally taking away the run and play on which was so affective last week.
In addition, after 3 nice early goals by Mcpharlin, very few options were presented going forward. The conditions also played havoc, Pav's kicking technique is just about flawless but even he struggled to cope with the swirly 'g' winds. Haze played well, Sandi terrific, but the young players still seem a way off from dealing with the difficulties of travel in the AFL. Hill, van Berlo and Ibbotsen particularly quiet.
More than a bit of a fourth term fade out was what made this game particularly difficult to take. Where to from here? Well, I can accept the young players will take a while to learn to win on the road, but some questions must be asked about a few players for the future.
Hopefully the players dont let this spill over and instead come out firing for the last home game, ala Port.

I wonder how well those at executive levels at AFL clubs understand what's happening to AFL coaches at present. I hope they have a much greater understanding than those in the sports media who you know football is their bread and butter. Sometimes is bread and dripping. Sometimes its bread, butter and 100s and 1000s. Sometimes they pretend it is fairy bread when it is just a slice of TipTop.
According to the media, AFL coaching is now a young man's game. What carp. Here's what I predict for the senior AFL coaches who are appointed only a few years after completing their stellar playing days:
