Excuse my ignorance but i was listening to the draft on the radio at work.
I'm sure freo were the first to pass at pick 71 why will the have the last pick in the PSD??

GC will have first pick, that's a given, then it's back to ladder positions in this year's competition. Richmond (1 slot left on the main list), then the Bomber's 1 pick left,Hawks and then FREO. Other teams below us on the ladder have used their quota of picks. (ps obviously not including the rookie spots). I think they do the PSD first and then the rookie draft on the same day, 7 Dec.

well for what it's worth I have it on just about the most reliable source you can get, that we were not going to pick up Hardingham. For what it's worth after the fact.

so why did we pass on pick 71 and then use our higher selections to promote the rookie listed players, why not just pass on last selection.

Yeah I was thinking the same, seems wierd to pass on pick 71 for no strategic advantage. It matters not as the rest where rookie elevations anyway.
So does anyone want to speculate on the likelyhood of freo getting Anthony? I have my doubts now, would love to seem in the purple but.

That would be nice.
Nathan Ablett has to get picked up by GC - I'm sure it was part of the appeal for Gary Jr.
Bachar to Richmond is also a done deal.
Hawks like Cameron Bruce so they would be out of the running for Jack unless they quickly do their sums and work out they would get many more years of footy out of Jack. Hopefully they don't.
Essendon is the big risk. They are a bitter bunch but would they take Jack when he's already committed (in principle) to Freo?

we passed at 71 as the rookie elevations are put in prior to the draft day, therefore it makes sense to use the lowest picks for that.

His manager would have set terms just like McPhee, 3 years $x per year. All other clubs have their salary caps tied up so can't afford him.
Bondie has already accounted that he needs to include an uncontracted AFL player in his salary cap planning, last year it was McPhee, this year Anthony and probably set aside enough to get a player next year as well.
Worst case, If Bombers take Anthony then we take Neagle. Similar age, height , position and apparently both with attitudes that need to change ... Six for half a dozen
