Darling is injury prone and for his size, is not really a key position player. Him going to the weagles is not a great loss. This time last year he was touted as No.1 pick, what happened?

From the video highlights off the AFL website, Viv reminds me of Hasleby. Good mark overhead, good contested mark, and great kick for goal.
Pitt looks pretty silky.
Mellington could be another Mayne.

Hawthorn screwed us twice.
Took Hallahan before we got the chance, so we took Michie.
Took Litherland before we did, so we took Mellington.
Really would have liked it if we'd managed to grab Hallahan or Parker. Especially Parker. Strong inside mid with great overhead marking and can kick goals. A bit like a young Paul Haselby... but faster.
Someone, please do me a favour and tell me why picking Pitt made more sense than either Parker or Hallahan? Best player available at the time and all that? Hoping that one of those guys might slide through?

I'll have a guess on why Pitt ahead of those other blokes:
no one reason but right or wrong our recruiters seem to love:
- mids height high 180s so can play anywhere except KPs
- quick + tank
- exquisite foot skills
- good decision makers
Pitt was best fit.
Think Nat Fyfe and then smile some.
Few of the blogs accuse Michie of being lazy and laconic - can't see it myself - so early scape goat alert.

Mellington 187cm is that a small forward these day?
He kicked 38.16 from 15 games in VFL....70% accuracy returning 2.5 goals a game. Also apparently 40 % of statistics are made up on the spot but thats impressive.

I reckon 187 classes Mellington as Medium. He's 1cm shorter than Chris Mayne and judging by the video plays a similar type of game.
Those stats look impressive.

I like the look of Josh Mellington tag team with Ballantyne could be a damgerous combo with Mayne

Notice when we take a Victorian it's rarely from the city always from the country on the basis they have to leave home to play AFL footy.

Happy to be proven wrong but I don't think we did as good this year as we have in the last few on face value. In saying that, some of these guys could turn out to be gems and a few will make very nice trade bait in the compromised draft next year. The recruiting staff know what they are doing.
