Just read the article on the Age re Darling and I know they're kids and they will/should learn, and I know the game is becoming over-sanitised but these comments would send alarm bells through any recruiter's mind:

Darling said. ''I think it's just … a bit of bad luck with being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I've heard rumours I started the thing in Subiaco, but that's why I got evidence to show the clubs, so … I can show them the facts.

Sounds a lot like ...

"Look Vossy it I was just pissed, out with my mates and having a lark but it wasn't my fault"

Show's a lack of appreciation for the fact there is a very compelling argument that he shouldn't even be there in the first place. Especially when you compare him to these other possible players whose work ethic, diet, self sacrifice to train, play, etc is available for the recruiters to scrutinize.

His footy smarts and skill will get him drafted but he's coming across as baby-Fev

Conca at 20 - good pick up. Would love Luke parker, lester or angus to slide to pick 44, dont see ledger adding much to the team. Monaco? possibly? Menagola an option, rather take blayne wilson with that pick..?

A good full forward should have a bit of mongrel in them. Sure he shouldn't be out causing trouble every weekend but if he doesn't mind a bit of biff and has some agro it's a good thing.

Totally off topic, I remember Leigh Browns first game for Freo. He matched up on one M Lloyd. Not only did he match up, he literally grabbed him by the throat and threw him on the ground.
Great stuff that.

I know the draft is on tomorrow and I might have the day off, so is it on tv and at what time?

Wasn't there some urbam myth about James Clement's first AFL game v Ess and his first opponent being James Hird.

Apparently he walked over and said something like:

"Hirdy you're my hero and it's a pleasure to meet you ... I look forward to kicking you ar*e"

How many player picks are we likely to make? 3 or 4?

In the afl.com site, the phantom draft has pick 72 as a rookie elevation for Micheal Barlow, but in the Herald Sun phantom draft 72 is listed as a draft pick with the rookie elevations starting at 87.

Feel sorry for the kid that gets picked up at number 4, but if its Gaff, i hope he lives up to his name.

Conca flew to Gold Coast for the draft. Only other WA boys to go over are Swallow and Bennell.

Further weight to growing view he'll go top 10 as these guys need to be there for the count 10-1 where clubs present jumpers yadda yadda.

Some commentators suggesting if he slips past Richmond at 6, Ess will take him at 8.

On Sam Day anyone reckon GC are going to call everyone's bluff and let him slide out of top 3 and maybe pinch Gaff, Polec or Heppell out from under everyone's noses?

Eagles at 4 need midfield class
Bris at 5 ditto plus have Brown, Fev, and Clarke
Richmond at 6 most likely to go Day if he's there but they too don't have midfield depth.

GC at pick 7 and 9 sandwich Ess whose supporters will tear up their memberships if they don't go midfielder.

That sounds like a good plan 391 !

I'll be interested to see what happens.

I would love to see the order mayhem that would follow !

Has anyone actually watched Darlin' this year? I saw bits and pieces of several West Perth games on the TV. When I did see Darlin in the action I was reminded of Ryley Dunn.

Bill Monaghan hasn't exactly given him a big rap.

Anyways if we do draft him first dibs for a nickname must surely be Clementine.
