Bringing Game into Disrepute
#335979
You can do a lot of things in football to get a bad rap. Libba left the game a villain because he had too much fight, Jeff Farmer left the game as black as he came into it so was frog marched out the back gate, Barry Hall seems to be an angry look away from being booted out of the league, Akker talked too much.

Great players with minor flaws who brought thousands of supporters to the game but are now football lepers in many ways.

Meanwhile, one bloke was de-registered for bringing the game into disrepute has been nominated for a medal that goes to "the retiring player who has contributed the most to the game".

www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/20.../105133/default.aspx

Surely the first thing on the check list for nomination is

Did this person

A) Bring the game into disrepute.
B) Not Bring the game into disrepute.

I suppose it doesn't say that player who has made the most positive contribution to the game.

Awarded to the the player that has contributed most to the game and the broader community.

I guess the broader community does consist of drug dealers, criminals, daniel kerr, chad fletcher & daniel chick.

Whoever is managing this guy's resurrection deserves a PR medal - spin doctor extraordinaire. Yet another case of celebrity over substance. Paris Hilton ould still end up a saint.

The AFL just never learn.

But on another point, surely Dessy's a shoe-in for the Community Spirit Award for beating up the sicko up the road?

I don't see the problem with their spin.

He has indeed made a massive contribution to the game.

They just failed to add that none of it was good.

What concerns me more is that they headline the article with booze bus Benny rather than one of the other more deserving canidates.

Reading stories about Benny Boy makes me want to turn to smack so that I can live in a fantasy world where there are no stories about Benny Boy.

It's hard to believe the AFL could ever sink lower than this, but I guess it's still only the preseason.

THe AFL reached bottom of the barrel years ago.

They've had an excavation team in ever since.

and how are the final decisions made. do the nominees have to submit their CV? do they sit an interview? or do the faceless power brokers pop over to the AFL one afternoon for a consensus meeting? It seems to me these awards have as much credibility as a primary school awards night.

Well if he didn't, he certainly brought disrepute into the game.
