TOPIC: Get Over It

Re:Get Over It

I would rather 2001 all over again. at least I knew what team I was supporting then. identity and belonging are far more important than success.

I was watching a Disney classic the other day and saw something that pictured freo's journey.

even though the place was a mess (2001), simba (us) was proud of his heritage and where he belonged.

I just can't wait to be king.

It's amazing really. You can tell an All Australian footballer like Chris Tarrant everything he's doing wrong and no one bats an eyelid but if a bloke puts a tie on in the morning you should trust he knows what he's doing.

I don't like the new jumper regardless of how the decision was made. It's incipid. I don't like the strategy behind the decision. It lacks any understanding of how football supporters operate.

The smug attitude that the hundreds of thoughtful arguments that have been written about the topic can be boiled down to a few hysterical nutjobs yelling 'kick it long' is ignorant and abusive no matter how passively you try and write it.

The loyalty card they play is what gives me the poops.

To formulate an educated and informed position against these changes makes you disloyal on the basis you're opposing the club.

As simplistic, glib and bland as the change itself.

I support the new jumpers, I also support whoever got Freo to where we are today. Although I put that squarely in the hands of Harvey, the coaching staff, the players and most importantly the talent scout. I think the supporters have a lot to do with it to.

Anyway 5 minutes after the final siren at the GABBA on the 26th March and the Dockers have won by 35 points no one we even care about the jumpers. And the old jumpers will always be part of history of this great club, I will never get rid of my old jumpers, I was never keen on them but I love what they stand for.

I've got nothing against people who like the jumpers... but, as Hypen and Shane have said quite clearly, being told to get over it is offensive.

As for who got the club to where it is today, you might want to learn some Freo footy club recent history. Cameron Schwabb and Chris Connolly rescued us from the gutter and turned a massive debt into massive profit within a couple of years. The current admin owe them a debt of thanks.

As for loving something you're not ken on...

perhaps you'd like to explain that one?

Quite simple Guy. I love what the jumper represents in terms of the Fremantle Dockers Football Club. The club/team that was created more than 16 years ago. Like many of you I am Quay member - i.e. one of the original members and I did not join because of the jumper. There are deeper reasons for being a supporter which evolve around Fremantle, part of which is the areas football history and the fans.

I agree with the comment about Schwabb and Connolly but then there were also some bad decisions like getting questionable players to try and win a quick premiership instead of considering the long term consequences. Connolly went partly because of that, you know and I know that we now have a squad that should keep us in the top 8 for a number of years. Those are the people I am talking about and congratulate because they made the hard decisions.

It'll all be over soon - the Chinese producers of the flimflam will be packaging up our membership gear sometime soon. If the management is smart they will make an announcement a few days - at least - before the members meeting to cut us off at the pass. Lets hope (when hope so far has been so disappointing) they have done the right thing - so we can get on to more positive matters. And if not it will fester on till the next battle.
