svs1, I admire your passion and creative thinking.
Stick with it.
Deep down, we all question ourselves at some stage. Public opinion, or mass mind, is always pervasive and persuasive... yet, when you get out there and talk to public opinion it's never single minded or united, it's multi facetted and splintered.
If you reckon something's wrong, if you care enough about it, if you're feeling hurt enough, then it's worth sticking to and seeing it out. Who knows what could happen in the long run? More importantly, you discover something more about yourself through trying.
I'm all for opposing and protesting... we don't see enough of it these days. Australia's gone from being a slightly larrikin society not afraid to stand up for itself to something meek and sheeplike.
It might not get us anywhere, we should be prepared for that, but we can enjoy the process and have a laugh on the way.

svs1 thanks for the passion I can't physically be there although I will be there in spirit and I like to think Matt Price is urging you along as well.

Seriously, is this all about some new jumpers?

No.
Perhaps if you bothered to read the thread properly instead of trying for the cheap laugh, you'd understand.

Fair cop Guy. The laugh was cheap. That's if anyone is laughing at all.
But my underlying point is deadly serious. Despite being absurdly passionate about my club, foundation member, totally one-eyed and unobjective lover of all things Freo (etc etc), I am genuinely baffled by how much angst has been caused by this issue. Its just a jumper tweak. Football clubs of all codes do it occasionally. If you look back 20 years you see a number of clubs playing in jumpers that look a bit out of date and which have since been changed. I like the new jumpers and it has never occurred to me that the change has any relationship to how I feel about the club, the team etc. I've always liked the fact that my club is a bit more progressive and free thinking than some others.
Other changes of substance - like leaving Freo or something - would be different. Even dumping the song would probably trouble me more. But this one seems pretty minor.
I agree completely with those who argue for a debate about more member control of the club, and maybe this is the catalyst for that debate. Although I think that issue is more complicated than it might seem too.
As much as anything, I'm saddened that this debate seems to be dominating this site at a time when there is a lot of other good stuff we could be talking about.
You're entitled to your view. Maybe I'm in the minority. My try for a cheap laugh was just a small cry for some perspective, that's all.

Agreed Gidgegary and good to hear you will be with us. Voted for you mainly because you were the only one who didn't make comments like what you could do for the players, admin etc. Do those other candidates really think they will be mentoring players? and Kate saying during her time we took on the youth program - yes I can just see Harvs and the other coaches asking Kate which path they should take!!!
By the way there are lots of people who don't use the Internet much or this site. I know a lot listen to Sports Central on 6PR but as I hate talking I never ring them. Can someone ring on Monday night and stir the pot - it may remind others about the meeting and increase our numbers. If not I'll send an email and hope they read it out. Thanks

I'll cop that in return.. fair enough,
but I disagree and the reasons for that have been well canvassed.
This isn't, by any stretch, a minor tweak, though. That's a stretch I won't cop. It's a major change... the fundamental identity of the club, through it's image, has been dumped... along with the technicality of the name of the club itself.
Sorry, but for me, that's no laughing matter.

"Other changes of substance - like leaving Freo or something - would be different. Even dumping the song would probably trouble me more. But this one seems pretty minor."
K. so the jumper is just a tweak, but the Name Freo and the song are changes of 'substance'?
You're arguing different aspects of the same thing. Personally, I couldn't give a rat's clack about the song - they're all cheesy and terrible.
Be prepared for your items of 'substance' to be addressed next time round... steves have said the song is safe. And 'one of the options' when they look at it in the next review will be to keep it.
So it's gorn.

when a song has the "full backing of the board" who does it turn to? i suggest danny frawley sets up a afl club song association. i mean once let go by freo i can't see it getting a gig anywhere else. maybe the song could do "the speakers circuit" with wallace and worsfold? or god forbid, a footy club boys night with jako? life is tough for an ex-club song.
