Draft Day - 18 Nov
#335697
For the "have gots" out there in TV land, Fox is showing the Draft Live from 7pm est. I'll be tuning in to see who will be joining the gang for premiership glory in 2011. Who's out there worth getting. Unlike last year when I was following the fortunes of Morabito, I've got no idea who we will, and should get.

Lets hope its not the top 20 draft pick show like last year. Nothing worse than trying to hear who we got at pick 50 and Pickering, Sheehan and Dunstall are carrying on over who some Victorian club picked at pick 19..

Like the looks of Conca, Menegola, Rioli, Kyanga, Hamp, Fasolo and Butcher. (all WA boys)

I think we only have 4 picks, plus Rookies (Ruffles to be a rookie hopefully).

Think it will be 3 picks, the will pass on the fourth to get Jack Anthony in the PSD

20- JAck Darling - Mitch Hallahan - Conca
44- Myles Sewell - Josh Green
56 - Tom Ledger - Blayne Wilson
Pass
Rookie Elevated

Speculating about the draft at this time of the year can help to ward off the withdrawal symptoms we're all experiencing, so I'm having a dip at our first pick. IMO, we could do worse than the following:

PICK 20 - we'll probably go for the best-available quick, highly skilled, line-breaking utility type with natural footy nous. Reece Conca (Perth), Mitch Hallahan (Dandenong Stingrays) & Josh Green (Clarence) would be possibilities.

Conca is very versatile, can run & carry & has those unteachable footy smarts prized by recruiters & coaches - & us! He likens himself to Ryan Griffen. Sadly, Hawthorn are interested in Conca & might snap him up at pick 19.

Green has blistering pace & was Tassie's MVP at the U18 championships this year, as well as earning All-Australian honours (he's a ranga, & that seems to help). He sees himself as being a Marc Murphy type & he'd be able to remind Jesse Crichton about the nexus between apples & good health.

Mitch Hallahan was an All-Australian too. He's a tough, inside midfielder with a penetrating kick & the capacity to win one-on-one duels. He's probably not as versatile as the other two; he wishes he was Joel Selwood (Cat, not Wet Toaster).

For what it's worth, I'd go Conca, Green, then Hallahan.

Why has Jack Darling slipped so far down the draft ladder?

Wasn't he being touted as a top 3 pick early in the year? I know there was a story about him being involved in a pub brawl or something, and if this is the reason recruiters have gone cold on him surely at his young age he can learn from such a mistake and sort himself out

Whatever the reason, provided he hasn't got some serious long term injury or so, I reckon he would be an absolute steal at pick 20

I don't believe that Darling has slipped it's just an opinion of a Journalist who probably hasn't got any more idea than you or I. Unfortunately I don't think he'll be around for our first pick.

Like last year, we look like getting the best names. Not a Chad in sight.

I'm still on the Seb Tape bandwagon - 190cm defender who is still growing ... We've made some great defenders out of good footballers over last few years but think it's time for a bloke with defence in his DNA

Reece Conca, Angus Litherland, Alex Fasolo in that order.

Would be a fantastic draft for the Dockers if we can get these three guys.
