It is good to see so many people having nominated this year as compared to the last number of (non Ben Allan) elections.

As a passionate member since club inception, and volunteer for game days, I hope the nominees are looking at the good they can do for the club by REPRESENTING members thoughts/ideas/concerns at Board dicussions and meetings rarather than their own resume.

If the member elected cannot comment on sites like Dockerland, then the 'club' needs to alter their constitution to allow for it.

I have been disappointed at the so-called member club management with its clear disregard for ground level members and supporters. Clearly everything is aimed now at the corporate sponsor and member.

The club is like govt...lost touch with the community.

Looking forward to game day in my brand spanking new Chevron* and paperclip cap. I'm guessing i) nobody will talk to me and/or ii) I'll get spat at by a rusted on freak.

* I won't really be buying a Chevron.

Hello fellow Freo Supporters

I am Sonia Sain, a Member-Elect Candidate in the up and coming election.

Many of you may have read my thoughts in the West on Thursday as well as on 94.5fm that afternoon. I was fortunate to be asked for my views, something that not all members have the opportunity to give through these forums. I hope I share some similar views to you as my purpose of nominating for the Board is to represent you - the passionate supporters of the Dockers

We all have different views on the changes made by the Club on our Logo and Guernseys. What we need to remember is that the Club did contact over 26,000 members for their views and only 10% responded – if we want our opinion considered, it is really important that we give it when asked. Please know that I don’t not feel that 2900 was an appropriate response for the Club to use (as well as the surveys conducted at the ground and focus groups) to make the change. My view is that in a Membership organisation, such a significant change should be presented to all members (over 39,000) and that is what I will communicate at Board level should I be elected, for any other significant changes to our identity e.g. Our song. In producing a survey, it needs to also be clear and transparent to all on what the results may lead to i.e. “brand review” questions will lead to jumper and logo change.

It is important that we all remember what a significant journey we have all been on with our Club. 2010 saw great success, though as we know some years haven’t been so great. We have always banded together and been proud of our loyalty and camaraderie. We have a promising list, with some amazing young talent and inspiring leaders. It is important we don’t lose sight of that. We are one of the most profitable clubs in the AFL, so the Organisation have made very sound business decisions to get us to this point.

I will do my best to represent the best interest of the members and look at ways to increase our benefits or consider new initiatives.
Reading through forums
such as this, I see some angst and differing opinions. It is important to remember we are all Freo Supporters and unified in our passion for the Dockers.

Should you want to ask me anything or make any suggestions, please feel free to email me at [email protected] . As I haven’t been a regular on these forums in the past, I don’t feel it appropriate that I now come on and start posting simply because I am running for the Board. Should I be given the honour to represent you, I would be more than happy to come on here often and take stock of what our Members see as the pressing issues.

GO THE DOCKERS!!!

They'd have got a better than 10% response if they'd have been up front about how they were going to use/abuse the information.

Which is precisely why they didn't.

"great success... always banded together... proud of our loyalty and camaraderie... promising list... amazing young talent... inspiring leaders... don’t lose sight of that... one of the most profitable clubs in the AFL"

Hmmm, so what was it that was so broken that needed fixing?

Sonia... do you think the new jumpers are a good idea? Were you embarrassed by the old one(s)?

Bottom line - we were duped!

The question was in relation to the TRAINING GUERNSEY - NOT THE FRIG'N PLAYING STRIP! WE ANSWERED THE QUESTION RELATING IT TO THE FRIG'N TRAINING STRIP - NOT THE PLAYING STRIP!

How many bloody times do we keep saying this and the FFC heirachy keep peddling this carp about "We did a survey on the guernsey..." tripe?!

If they cared about our opinion they would have posted and emailed the surevey to ALL MEMBERS and asked the question "We are considering making changes to our playing strip but before we proceed with anything we would like your opinion. Here are the options we are looking at" The options would have been listed and we could have emailed or posted the responses back. If only 5,000 replied then they could justify any decision by saying only 5,000 out of 40,000 replied - but they didn't. Most didn't reply 'cos we DIDN'T GIVE A RAT'S ABOUT THE TRAINING STRIP - WE GIVE A RATS ABOUT THE PLAYING STRIP!

They're either idiots or they didn't care about our opinion. I'll put 50c eachway!

Hi matto - I agree with you on that the survey should have been sent to ALL members

Hi Funkyfreo2 - I was very proud of the old jumpers. If I was asked for my view on the changes I would have given it, though wasn't sent the survey. I believe it should have gone out in the mail to everyone.

To all - as outlined in my email, any questions you want to send directly to me, feel free (by email). I am not a regular poster on Dockerland and therefore don't feel it is appropriate to post any further on here until post election. I wanted to give you an opportunity to hear my thoughts and have done that.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Freoson

Good onya for replying, Sonia - I think some don't really fathom the depth of difficulty this move has caused.

Oh dear, when are you going to run Richmond?

Polly will take care of the joint whilst you're gone.
