My Club

When the email about my membership arrived last week it took about 1.2954 secondes to think about the anchor, colours and all the negative publicity in the last week or so.
When I remember Lukey Mac running down a defender or beating Dowerin boy in the final, I think of nothing mentioned above. Same for Pav kicking one from 60 out only to see the goal umpire tap his other hand.
Same deal when Barlow goes down. No colours in sight, nor anchor.
All I see is my club, the heart and soul of Freo.
My first ever place of employment involved riding a bike from SFSHC into Freo to deliver the daily news on weekdays. Occasionally the Western Mail when the Dogs were playing away.
Second job, glassie at every SFFC home game.
I live for this club, and love them.
I have recently been reading the posts from the club up the road. Just to see how much they are hurting.
God it feels good.
My point is, lets look at our club overall. Sure the marketing people will have their hand in somewhere, same for the other corporates within the club.
I bet when we are 9 goals up next year in round 8, undefeated, no body will remember either my post or the club colours/anchor.
We will be too busy watching our boys.
PS. For what its worth.
TNT when it becomes our song, will strike terror into the other 17 teams.

Well said Freo66... Couldn't agree with you more. I remember Pav being interviewed after an awesome win and he said that the crowd really love TNT (as it was being played in the background).

Nicely written by Freo66.
Some people on this site would be best served to read it about ten times. I'm bloody proud of where our club took us this year. My son and I will be wearing the purple/white colours (probably with the new logo and #21 attached) just enjoying the ride in a winning environment. Totally agree with the TNT club song idea too, if we must change. Perhaps someone could remind those operating the P.A at Subi that an AC/DC song MUST only be played loud though!

I just think many of us feel that the Freo Dockers is OUR club and that these ring-ins (Steve + Steve) have come in and changed the jumper and the logo when they haven't earned the right as they've only been on board for five minutes as opposed most of us who have been Dockers supporters and/or members for 16 years.
Sometimes it's good to vent and we certainly have been doing lots of venting on this site. It gets things off your chest and allows you to let others know how you feel.
Come March 2011 we will all be pumped and primed and looking forward to our first home game of the year.
Some will be wearing the new strip and some (like myself) will be still wearing the old strip.
Will anyone jump off the Freo bandwagon? No they wont.
Will some of us still be bitter with FFC heirachy? Yes we will.
You can please some of the people all of the time and you can please all of the people some of the time - but you will never please all of the people all of the time!
Roll on 2011!!

I don't think anyone on this site feels differently about our boys. We'll all be enjoying the journey next season. We're all proud of our club - the football side of it.
We don't have to like the new jumper or be happy about the atrocious excuse for a logo. We don't have to quietly accept these changes if we don't like them. We're allowed to be angry and we're allowed to say what we think.
I'm sick of people saying shallow, thoughtless things like - build a bridge, suck it up, get over it, loosen up.
I wouldn't be 'best served' to read Freo66's post ten times. I already get it. I already know how I feel about my club. I'm passionate about it. That's why I'm so annoyed about the changes. I think the new jumper and logo are weak. They mean nothing and don't reflect how I feel about my club. I won't wear any of the new gear.
If you are happy with the new stuff, fine. Wear it. But don't get annoyed with me because I'm not quietly accepting a change that I don't think is right.
Good post, Freo66. I love our club too.

Freo66, I'm glad you can look forward to next season without any reservation, and we are all looking forward to out team doing well next year. But many of us feel our club (not the team) is being hurt by the steves. The team doing well and the change in the jumper and logo aren't related.
We all have a different idea of what 'the club' is. For many of us, the jumper and colours are a big part of what makes a club. Would you still follow the club is the lost the name Fremantle? What if they moved to Joondalup and called themselves the Bushrangers? Would you feel angry about that? Doubtless we all have a point where we feel that a decision is a step too far. Right now some of us feel that the club has needlessly taken a step in that direction. Maybe it isn't enough for us to stop following the team, but it is enough for us to be mad as hell. Maybe it won't be at the forefront of out minds when Hilly lopes along the wing and slots one from 50. But it will niggle at us for a long, long time. And the question remains, why did it have to be like this? And at the very least, wasn't there a better way to go about it?
So, by all means enjoy the games next year, and support the boys. I know I will. But if the steves - or the steves of the future - come for the things you love about the club, I can assure you that you won't be persuaded or comforted by people telling you that no-one will remember the change when the games are on.

I've been on board from day one and I have no idea whether I still am.
I could handle the illusion of 'club' until it was ripped out into daylight. You could call it a tribe... but tribes are self generating and define themselves, and that doesn't fit. I'm thinking more in terms of a mob now... and mobs are driven by impulse, directed by self interest.
I reckon I'm an interested observer now.

Those are our PA's, tails66. They played our song proudly throughout the year, they amplified Barlow and Sandilands' voice when they won the Roscoe Medal this year.
Who are you to question the volume decided by the professionals employed to manage the sound levels?
I know I'll be there to support those PA's no matter what volume they play at and anyone who doesn't agree needs to build a bridge and get over it. The volume has been set and anyone querying that volume is just dividing the club.

Bridges are incredibly hard to engineer, sometimes impossible. In some places - oh, let's just say Berlin for example - you have to pass through the Brandenburg Gate before you can cross the bridge. The guys on the other side don't have to pass through the gate before crossing the bridge - they just guard the bridge. I think I'm stuck in front of the Brandenburg Gate, it's locked and a couple of knobbers have brought in the security to keep me outside the gate.
Build a bridge and get over it - sure, as long as there are two Steves underneath the bridge and I have a full tank of Emu just finishing its run through my body. Then there's a point for crossing the bridge.
Not that it matters, but I know that sooner or later Pink Floyd are going to come along and the gate will come crashing down.

I will always be a strong supporter of 'My Club'.
However, I am concerned that there may be no more 'club' to support once this 'franchise' is done with it.
