Championship Cup
#333374
The WAFL has thrown its support behind a new national competition which would pit Australia's best State league clubs against each other in front of a national television audience.

The Leagues Championship Cup, which has the support of the AFL, the conditional support of the VFL and the financial backing of Fox Sports, could start as early as next April.

A company owned by Rupert Murdoch, starting up a national second tier league competition which Foxtel will have exclusive broadcast rights to. What could go wrong?

Does anyone involved in football have a memory of more than 6 months?

agreed, makes me nervous, but if it puts more money into WAFL, not just money-bags pockets, then hopefully they can get something out of it...

still... i'd rather have someone else back it...

Jebus, Leagues Champions Cup is a clumsy sounding name.

You could easily shorten that into something more exciting. More catchy. More Super.

Wont last for long after the mighty South Freo Bulldogs win the first 3 in a row!

Awaiting response from Shane.

Interesting to hear the Vics whinging about flying already. Guarantee that a WAFL team will have to play in Tasmania.

You have to make the finals to get a run, Rapidfire.

At this stage, South Fremantle have missed the Super League boat. Enjoy playing against Peel and Perth in the retooled 2011 Sunday League.

Putting East Perth on the national stage is an embarrassment to WA.

Where are the Marketing Steves?

Suburban SuperLeague is the moniker they're after. That's what Rupe wants from it, as long as it makes money.

Loves his Faustian pacts, does Rupe.

It would have been done years ago if the Goanna was still alive. Aah yes the Rebel Aussie Footy Super League.

That would have made for a nervous Greek .

Fair Rules and Tribunals and equitable Fixturing....just imagine.

Hard to tell, but it is a footy jumper.

Not much Solid Rock at the AFL. Plenty of Scared Ground, but limited to the boundaries of AwFL house.

If Rupe had his way, they've had plenty of borrowed time though.
