You know what? They can change the bloody song if they want (accuse me of being pessimistic if you like, but I don't think we can stop or revert any changes made by the club.. err.. corporation), it won't stop me singing it - and it shouldn't stop any of you singing it either.
Something I think is missing from AFL crowds is the 'unofficial club song' that is prevalant in so many other sports.
And that brings me nicely to my actual point - with our rich maritime heritage I would love to hear some sea shanty-inspired crowd chants. Here is my short list (excuse the anime pics):
(Starting at 0.20)
Fremantle, Fremantle, go mighty Freo! Oh Fremantle is a place I know, down the coast to Fremantle!
(Starting at 0.14)
Oh way, haul away! We'll haul away for Freo! Way, haul away, we'll haul away for Fremantle!
Any other salty sea-dogs out there have a favourite shanty?

If te song has to be changed how about one to the tune of Fairy Tale of New York by The Pogues:
(sorry don't know how to embed youtube vids, hang on it seems I do!)
Sung from the second verse (the bit where Kirst McColl starts singing:
We're a team on the march
and our future's untold
but our lads are all ready, it's a place for the bold
When we first take the field on a cold winter's day
we promise a cup for our fans this day
we are strong we are gritty
Kings of Freo city
When the flags finish waving the cup will be ours.
The fans all swinging
when the team comes a bringing
that AFL cup
and we'll dance through the night.
And the fans from the FDFC choir were singing We're on Our Way
and the team was hanging out for GF Day.
They're all bums, they're all drunk
they aint nothin but junk
the opposition are crud and we'll leave them for dead.
We're feral, we're rabid
we're here to wreak havoc
enjoy your last win, against us it's your last!
And the fans from the FDFC choir were singing We're On Our Way
and the team was hanging out for GF Day.
