Draft order
#331456
For anyone interested, here is a link to the 2010 NAB AFL Draft order.

http://www.afl.com.au/portals/0/2010/201..._afl_draft_order.pdf

To say this draft is compromised is a slight understatement in my opinion. Lucky our club made the right decisions over the last few years and drafted a whole swag of young superstars to see us through the next few years.

Picks 20, 38, 55, 72....

Wow, the Eagles really do suck.

Is that it for the Gold Coast then? They took 6 players?

And with 4, 26, 28, 54, 62 they will continue to do so.

Yeah but they were allowed 1 from each club. They're 10 experienced AFL players short of where they should be.

The AFL compensation deal is ridiculously arbitary. Thankfully we haven't been involved (yet).

Ablett is worth twice the amount in the draft to any other player that went to Gold Coast on that list, but when you compare what Geelong got for Ablett, to what Carlton gave up to the Slime three years ago to get Judd they still got short changed.

NB I'm not talking about how Slime used those picks, just the opportunity they got.

Couple of questions based on that list.

Have the Dogs, Adelaide, Hawks etc definitely chosen to take their GC compo picks this year. Doesn't that push all other picks back?

Why is our first pick ahead of Sydney's? Didn't we finish one spot ahead of them over the 22 rounds, and then lose a final at the same stage?

Moose, Sydney finished 5th, Freo finished 6th. It actually goes on finals position, not after round 22 position for the top 8. Which in the case of this year is almost exactly the same except StKilda who finished third on the ladder, finished 2nd after the finals.

Moose re your other question ...

Last I heard none of those clubs had officially exercised their rights to use their picks this year (yet).

I also believe they can be traded same as 'normal' picks - so some might get offloaded during trade week.

Last year we got Crichton for Peake (pick 48) and Roberton for Drum (pick 49) ... good times.

So means if we take a pick for Taz (or what we get for Taz) we're chasing a round 1 or 2 to have something in the top 50 .... surely] GC want John Anthony as a forwward :-)

PS I am also really looking forward to seeing WCE use their first pick on a 27 yr old who’s running around in the WAFL with a pot-belly and is 5'8" and 75kgs.

(Ok ok .. I admit he ripped the 2010 WAFL season to shreds but put him in an AFL midfield with a heavy tag and no-one to protect him and see how he goes)

PS ... on last years's draft taking picks as listed on the AwfL site GC would have got following players taken in the first 2 rounds ...

Tom Scully
Jack Trengove
Dustin Martin
Anthony Morabito
Gary Rohan
Brad Sheppard
Andrew Moore
Jordan Gysberts
Daniel Talia
Christian Howard
Callum Bartlett

Ah, pick 20. The Pick of Gold: 2009 - Nathan Fyfe; 2008 - Hayden Ballantyne.

(Or it would have been Hayden Ballantyne if those stupifying morons up the road hadn't used it on that crab Tom Swift, letting us scoop up the MoM with pick 21!)

So don't let anyone tell you we won't get anything out of the draft this year.

Also as part of the compromised draft,G.C. collect the best 17 yr olds last year further thinning out this years draft.
Our picks this year 20,38,55,72,89,106,123,140.
or if all G.C. compensation picks are taken this year... 20,45,62,79,96,113,130,147

upgraded players im so far aware of,DeBour,VanBerlo,Silvagni.
reference for upgrades.

Players gone so far,
Chris Hall
Paul Hasleby (ret.)
Des Headland (ret.)
Dean Solomon (ret.)
Scott Thornton (ret.)
Cris Tarrant( whipped.)
The count so far is 5 out,3 upgraded, equals 2 spots only in the main draft,3 picks in the rookie draft.Allowing us picks 20,38(45),as the rumour a player for player is the prefered action for Tarrant this movement is mute.
I was unable to find the rookie schedule,my google-foo is not as strong as KouNtS_UtM .
It is a reasonable asumption that Murphy is gorn(pick 55(62)),Bob is on his last legs(72(79)),Dodd and Schammer may have trade value, and in this draft may be strong options for trade, but my personal thought are that they are worth more as depth players, and will be part of the the reqired delistings/trade next year. There are others on the edge, such as Hinkley, taken as a development player but he may be considered as not progressing fast enough.
Considering the amount of players asking to move,Clarke nominating us,being the most noteworthy, makes this a great opertunity for our club to nail this year.

For a comparison,2009's picks at ours this year,

20-Freo-Nat Fyfe
38-Sydney-Sam Reid(Ben Reids bro)
(45)-Adelade-Sam Shaw
55-Sydney-Trent Dennis-Lane(8 games,18 goals)
(62)-Collies-Ben Sinclair
72-Carlton-promoted a rookie in Sam Jacobs
(79)-Freo-promoted a rookie in Greg Broughton
89 + promoted rookies
