end of innocence...
#331442
The events of the last few days have profoundly changed the way I feel about our 'club'. As a founder member I held the view, naively perhaps, that FFC were different from the corporate franchise up the road.
That as a member of a real club my views, and those of my fellow members, would somehow be heard and taken into account when determining the direction the club headed. Clearly this is no longer the case, if indeed it ever was.
So let's stop the pretence that we're a 'people's club' and face the sad and sobering reality that we're a franchise like all the others. I'll probably retain my seats next season...but not as a club member, merely a season ticket holder.

That's seriously weak if these changes have affected your passion for Fremantle. The changes have happened so all we can do is embrace them and move on.
At least now we can seperate the real supporters from people like this.

Hear Hear freojohn. Brickbat to you docker_champ. There is a club up the road for you.

All pretence is gone, and I don't trust my club anymore. This whole debacle just steals the passion.

So then blockerhall, if you dont trust our club, why support it? maybe you should move on. as stated above, this has sorted out the real supporters from the pretend ones.

suck it up, quit crying, embrace the change and support the guys next year.

Let the club bean counters count beans, and let the supporters support.

I know which one i am and i'll be supporting the boys no matter what they wear

I've made this point a few times now but what saddens me about all this is the split it's created in the supporter base.

We have people who were united in their love of the 'club' now at each other and I'm one of them, sorry to say.

giddyup and others, I don't think it's about supporting the club or not, it's never that simple. I would, however, point out that what we did identify with, what we felt we followed passionately, has been taken away from us. Telling us we should bugger off in those circumstances is a bit rich. I would also point out, as others have, that accepting this move and effectively supporting the admin over it, leaves us open to having other changes rammed down our throats in future...

and that should set alarm bells ringing.

I marched through Freo years ago to keep Freo in Freo when the WAFC were planning to move us out to the WACA. We fought for our club then and won... bending over and taking it now isn't a favoured option, believe me.

I'd chose my words carefully clown. I won't be crying, and I will not embrace the change. Get used to it.

Club bean counters aren't counting beans, that is the problem. They are changing club icons with little or as far as we know no member input, so if you reckon that is all good to support, go wear the ochre chevron

"I'll be supporting the boys no matter what they wear".

So you'll support Sandi in a Geelong jumper, or Pav in a Carlton one?

Clearly that's not what you mean. So maybe what they wear isn't as irrelevant as you make out.

Guys, welcome to reality, albeit bitter.
So, come September 2011, this will be forgotten.
A flag for Freo, and all will be forgiven.

Turn it up, Guy. Fremantle's greatest tradition is bickering, you South Fremantle spack.

Have a read of the history of WA football. Fremantle split from Rugby and made Aussie Rules WA's sport. The first premiership went to Rovers after Fremantle forfeited the last three games because of a blue about the umpires. Fremantle instigated the idea of having police at games because of the punch ups after a loss...or a win. Unions ate up Fremantle then Fremantle took them back. Then Fremantle packed it in when the players were upset about bus fairs.

East Fremantle packed up and moved grounds because they couldn't stand the sight or the smell of South Fremantle. The city has fought amongst itself about football for longer than we've had a country.

Half the WAFL Premierships reside in Fremantle because of it (sure most of them in are East Fremantle but you blokes chipped in for a few, God bless you).

The most unFremantle thing you could do, when someone does something to your football club that you don't like, is to quietly accept their decision.

It doesn't matter if they change their mind or not, you do it for the sport of it.

South Fremantle spack???

Is that the leafy surrounds of East Fremantle I hear whispering through your latte? f*** me, I thought you'd have something better than a wet lettuce leaf handy to swing at me... where's your handbag?

I put it down to get my sunglasses out, the 29 cups were blinding me a gain, and I must have left it somewhere. Can't go back at this time of day though, the sun reflecting off the silverware is like a death ray.

You choose an interesting topic to make your first ever post docker_chump32. Been lurking a while, or did the Two Steves send you this way to retaliate?
