I believe he can do that. I reckon we should take the steak knives or whatever we can get in terms of a pick. 55 on offer seems fair. If Taz had gone to the Gold Coast we wouldn't have got much better than a late third round pick for him, given his age. If we can't get the player we want I'd take the pick - plenty of old salts running around in the VFL or WAFL and I think we could grab one of them or a young fella.
Incidentally I reckon Taz is doing whats right for him and holding out to go back to the Pies. Good luck to him - he did good for us and we did good for him, resurrecting a career that was on the skids. No hard feelings here.

He can enter the preseason draft and Mad Mick will have to give up on something to get him (before Hawks and Carltank).

After getting diddley for Josh and next to nothing for Wobbie, I think the 'club' should be aware of the dangers at this point. I would grab Davis, have a milkshake with Dick (for next year) - maybe snap up Anthony and off-load him to the Crows (for Griff) or dump him off to Brissie with the rest of my picks for Clark.

Three way it - put aside the Sunday golf session and get the deal done, Bondy.

Tarrant for pick 55 is logically better than Tarrant for bugger-all surely?
Time to put aside standing on one's dignity and go for what is availble.
With the VFL in play and other good sources of pretty reasonable talent surely pick 55 is still a plus?

I'd still rather let Tarrant go to the draft, force the Pies to use a pick and send a message to the competition that our days of getting reemed at the trade table are over. This business of Tarrant saying he's going to get us the best deal possible and then allowing his money hungry management and the Pies greed flip flop us into a weak position is BS. I say let him go through the angst of going into the draft and uncertainty of maybe having to retire a career that has started to gather momentum again. Suffer in your jocks Taz, Pies.

Pick 55 for Taz is better than nothing. I am more p1ssed about the way he has gone about it. We would get a better deal if allowed to trade with Hawks or Carlton. He is looking after himself, which is understandable, but he is also looking after the Pies (who ditched him) more than Freo (who resurrected him.)

On some level though I would prefer him at the Pies rather than Hawks or Carlton because I think he adds a lot more to their sides than he does for the Pies.

Anyway, this article indicates we get involved with the Walker trade to get it done. Mentions Surjan being offered to Blues. Maybe we could get him.

Taz to Pies
Anthony to Blues
Walker to Port
Surjan to Freo

The Sunday Age reports Carlton utility Andrew Walker could yet become embroiled in the Tarrant deal, with the Blues showing a minor interest in out-of-favour Collingwood forward Jack Anthony.

Port Adelaide is keen to secure Walker, but can't do so unless the club manages to offload enigmatic forward Daniel Motlop.

The Power were hopeful of moving the troubled star to Geelong, where his younger brother Steven is contracted, but the Cats have no interest in the oldest Motlop according to the Sunday Age.

The Sunday Herald Sun says Port Adelaide has offered up vice-captain Jacob Surjan to the Blues to try and get the Walker deal done.

If Tarrant and the pies want to be complete @&$@@$ about then, I'd be prepared to redraft him. He can either give up $350k and retire or play for another season with us and take his chances next year.

Either way we send a message that we won't get bent over by players or other clubs. Tarrant owes us more than this.

I'm with you Yeti...

Taz can't influence the draft, he has to take his chances and I'd happily redraft him rather than heave him take what he knows of the gameplan and players off to Collingwood.

I like the way his ****wit manager keeps telling us its a foregone conclusion that he lands at Collingwood through the pre-season draft if we don't do a deal.

If that's the case why are they even dealing with Fremantle?

Tarrant will play with a Victorian team next year his preference is Collingwood. Don't fall for the boo hoo I'll retire if I don't get to Pieland drivel.

Collingwood have to do better than pick 55 or they roll the dice big time in the PSD.

Would love Clarkson to come out and say that he would definitely consider drafting Taz at pick 54. He could say that the risk of drafting some at pick 54 that will never play for them vs picking up Taz at 54, convincing him to play and being right back in premiership contention would be worth the risk. May put some leverage back our way but more importantly make Taz sweat.

If Tarrant is perceived to be sincere in his threat to retire if picked up by any other club (including us re-drafting him) except Collingwood would persuade other clubs not to pick him (and lose a player on their list) prior to Collingwood's initial pick in the draft(s). We are playing a dangerous game if we are looking at "punishing" Tarrant or the Pies. We will gain nothing whatever the outcome.

We need to take pick 55 now and get on with reviewing the potential throughout the lower comps like the VFL, SANFL and WAFL for a suitable player.
