Grand Final Tickets
#328708
At the start of the season the club and then again a couple of weeks ago the AFL, were flogging off the right to buy a Grand Final ticket. You didn't get the money back if Fremantle didn't make the Grand Final.

It worked out that someone, either the clubs or the AFL, was pocketing several million dollars for not actually doing anything.

I assume Collingwood supporters got the same deal. You pay $10 and you go to the front of the queue comes Grand Final time.

Now we're reading that most of Collingwood's tickets were taken up by a line of hanger-oners put in front of those members and the rank and file members couldn't get any tickets at all.

So this reserving your spot in the queue isn't just a bit of a take, it's a complete con. CCC get onto it.

IN light of that, it's hard to take officialdom seriously when they get all uppity about scalpers when they themselves extort so much money out of members, then hand out the grand finals tickets to officials, corporate sponsors and anyone else higher up the pole than the average supporter who cheers their team on every weekend.

Has there been a more shambolic couple of weeks in the game?

Clearly, they're on the gear.

I thought only Port Adelaide and Fremantle did that and I dont think anyone gets in front of you. The Clubs only take enough people for the amount of tickets they will get allocated.
The only thing they cant guarantee is the type of ticket. It cold be a premium or it might be a basic seat.

They say a lot of things. It's yet to be put to the test and they're already up a hundred grand or so on the deal. The AFL sent a similar letter out to the members of the clubs going into the finals to register their 'interest' in grand final tickets.

The basic idea that you pay a fee to maybe have a chance at buying a ticket, and won't get your money back even if the club doesn't make it, is criminal.

when Freo get there in '11, '12 etc... the GF tickets are the easy bit, it's the flights from Perth being the problem. qantas should sell a guaranteed flight option with the membership.

Maybe FFC could get a few of those packages they had going for the game against Geelong again but different types.
The one we got was a one nighter, maybe they could have one nighters and weekenders or something.

Teams that compete in the GF only get 4000 tickets to allocate. Given that there are harbourmasters etc, there might be less than 4000 upgrades available.

Only freo (and I think one other club) offer the $15 GF upgrade. I believe the club keeps the $15 on the odd occasion we do not feature in the GF. (i think the slime allocate their 4000 to a travel agent who sells overpriced packages to members).

All of the Victorian clubs just stitch up those tickets between the committee, their mates, major sponsors and so on.

I read that about ten years ago one Vic club actually DID offer this upgrade system and collected the cash - but then reneged on the deal when they actually made it to the GF. People who had paid didn't get the option.

The Slime do not sell overpriced packages through their agent. In 2006 they gave their members the opportunity to register their interest for tickets to the Grand Final by calling a certain number at a particular time and registering their details. The members were then told the results of allocations would be available on the website at a certain time. I know members who got tickets and paid less than $200 per ticket.

There are more than 4000 tickets 25TI.

From the MCG website:

Category
Intended Allocation
(Approximate)
Club members and guests
22,000-23,000
Staff
100-200
Corporate suite holders
2200-2300
Corporate dining rooms
300-400

Not sure who gets the other 70000 seats, though I presume they are MCC members - who get 12000 to randomly allocate, and corporate presales.

So, each team in the GF should get somewhere between 10-12000 tickets each. I had a feeling it was 15000 but I suppose it is less than that.

So the odds of getting a ticket are over 2:1 if you are an MCG member...
Something about this sucks...
Who can I blame?
