Dockerland Budget: Fremantle v Melbourne

To save people forking over their hard earned money to the AFL in exchange for a magazine that gets bigger every week, making it harder to get to the only part you actually want - the names of the players, we've introduced the Dockerland Budget.

You Be Harves: Fremantle v Melbourne

Last year was a bit of a bust and it can only be put down to one thing - with a new coach, the supporters put too much faith in him. They stopped working the magnetic board, coming up with the perfect match ups and killer moves and weren't prepared to yell out advice to the coach between quarters. Poor old Harves wouldn't have known what to do. So make sure this season you arrive at the game prepared and when you see Mark Harvey walking by, yell out your best ideas at the top of your voice to help him along.

Match Report: Richmond v Fremantle

Fremantle had barely had time to cover Michael Barlow’s leg cast with swear words and crudely drawn pictures of male genitalia before they were forced onto an aeroplane and shipped off to Victoria to play Richmond. While it was a bit of a annoyance for Fremantle, the locals were very excited. They’d won three games in a row after barely winning since the war and were pleased as punch. Fremantle, of course, were well aware of the quality of those sides Richmon had beaten, or the lack there of, and weren’t particularly concerned.

What did worry them though was that, with the carry on about the Tigers, Fremantle flying in and beating Richmond was going to be like Father Christmas coming down your chimney, eating your biscuits, drinking your beer then stealing your Christmas tree and setting fire to your house while you sleep - then leaving socks and underpants in your Christmas stocking.

A Lead Well Held

Fremantle have held their place in the top 4 with a comfortable win over Melbourne. The Dockers set Melbourne and lead in the first half and then sat back and watched as the Demons attempted to chase it down. It was a scintillating display of football by Fremantle in the first quarter - high marks, long goals, bone crunching hits on feeble Melbourne players but by half time the Dockers had had enough and packed up for the day. Unhindered by an opposition, Melbourne fought back to get within a kick of the lead but the cool heads of the Dockers prevailed as they switched back on, got the ball into Hayden Ballantyne's hands and sat back once again to enjoy watching him celebrate kicking the winning goal.

Here Comes the Cavalry

Tim Ruffles did a good job holding down the fort but when the likes of Luke McPharlin, Chris Tarrant, Greg Broughton and even Nat Fyfe put their hand up for a run back in the seniors then you say 'yes, sir' and step aside. This week Fremantle will welcome back what looks to be, yes it is, a back line. The long awaited second coming of the Luke the McSsiah slots straight back in to centre half back while Chris Tarrant and Greg Broughton will be in the hands of the doctors to see if they'll be up and about to tackle what Melbourne are passing off as a forward line. Nat Fyfe has recovered from his smashed head is expected to cut up the Demons on the wing. Tim Ruffles is the only out so far, with three players left to cut by Sunday.

Freo Formguide: Fremantle v Melbourne

The last time Fremantle and Melbourne met was almost a year ago. As they rebuilt after their 2006 premiership tilts, both sides were struggling to find some form,  languishing at the bottom of the ladder as they took the hard road back to the top. 12 months later, Fremantle are a sitting a game clear int he top 4, astounding spectators with their both their brilliant skills and endless supply of courage while Melbourne, well, it’s probably polite not to mention what they’re still doing at the moment. Let’s just say that they haven’t had to work on their fear of heights yet.
