Some New, Fresh, Bold Blokes

The Gold Coast and an early spurt of form in 2010 saw Fremantle making more a cameo role in the draft this year but history will show that the Dockers usually snare some bargains, even with limited resources. While the Gold Coast, the Eagles and a couple of other dud football clubs ponced about counting backwards from 10-1 for no discernible reason, Mark Harvey tried not to look lonely without Chris Scott while the work experience kids vied for a position on the front desk to cal out the draft selection. A moment's silence was held for Andrew Gaff, after the Eagles picked him up at number 4 and then Fremantle set about preparing for their first selection.

With their first crack at a new player, the proudly called out Jayden Pitt's name - who'd been tipped to go to the Gold Coast with one of their early selections. Named an All Australian forward during the u18's carnival, like all draft players, Pitt can also play in the midfield and in defence. He hails from Geelong, is 188cm tall and used to support the Bulldogs.

Once Fremantle were done, there was a lot more poncing about before pick 44 came around and the Dockers went for Viv Michie from theOakleigh Chargers. Aside from having the coolest name in the draft, he's apparently a good mark for his size, has a beautiful kick and, as expected, can play forward, back or midfield if required. He's 187cm tall and played for Vic Metro in the u18's carnival.

The Gold Coast poached another few dozen players from East Fremantle and around the country before the Dockers turn came around once more, this time with pick 56. As is the club's style nowadays, they went to Victoria again and selected Josh Mellington from the Murray Bushrangers. Josh also fits the utility mould with a preference for the forward line. He's 182cm and also used to support the Bulldogs.

Fremantle passed on their next pick and then sorted out some book keeping issues which saw Michael Barlow, Matt deBoer and Jay Van Berlo all made into senior players. A ceremony will be held later in the week to confirm the promotion, arse paddling is expected to reach excessive levels.
