Road to the Flag 2011

Over the past few seasons, West Australians have made it fairly obvious to the AFL, through attendances, that they don't really care for oddly timed Saturday afternoon games as a whole. With that in mind, the new fixtures are out and Fremantle have been given 11 games on a Saturday. As is tradition, they will also have to fly to Sydney to play the Swans, head up to Brisbane to play the Lions, play both South Australian teams in South Australia and, in a new addition to the schedule, will travel in both the first and last rounds. Thankfully the AFL have been kind enough to send Fremantle to the MCG in 2011, 3 times no less, but all the matches will be played in the first half of the season and two of them will be played before midday Fremantle time.

Since the Victorians don't like to see the sun after Australia Day has rolled around, the Dockers start the season with a trip to Queensland where they are expected to score a massive win which will see Michael Voss sacked midway through the third quarter.

They then head back to Perth to play Geelong the following Saturday night at Subiaco Oval. Then head to Adelaide to play the Crows, get two games at home (including a Monday night Anzac Day match against the Bulldogs) and then have the bye in Round 6.

In early May they will get their first trip to Melbourne (yes, May - Round 7) where they will play Richmond at the MCG in some sort of freaky Foxtel Saturday twilight match.

The following week the Eagles will have a home Derby which Fremantle will win easily and then make another trip to South Australia in Round 9.

In Round 10, Fremantle supporters will get their first look at their side in 5 weeks when they play St Kilda on a Saturday afternoon. They settle into a nice rhythm of Sunday morning games at the MCG and home matches till they host the Gold Coast in Round 15 and have a bye in Round 16,

In the home stretch they head to Sydney, play 3 night games at Etihad Stadium, two Saturday afternoon games at Subiaco Oval and in Round 23 play a Friday night game against Collingwood at Subiaco.

Then it's a home final, a week off, another home final, a trip to the MCG then a tour of Australia with a shiny cup thing.
