At some point we're probably going to have to stop keeping track but Fremantle lost their 8th consecutive game for the season, going down to once bitter rival Hawthorn in a sad state of events. Fremantle started the afternoon looking like it might be their day. A gale was blowing against them but they still managed to put on some early goals, taking, losing and retaking the lead. The forwards knew where the goals were, the defenders knew where the ball was. They all kicked well, they moved the ball well, they glowed with competence. At half time, the Dockers were in front and had no reason to think they couldn't stay there for the rest of the day. Then the second half came. Their kicking went terrible, their marking was awful, no one moved for fear of having to drop a mark or miskick a ball and cop the wrath of the Fremantle supporter who'd bravely shown up. When Stephen Hill was rolled from the ground with a busted leg, the only means out of defense went with him and the Hawks piled on the goals. From there it was just a case of picking out the players you want to see dropped and pining for the glory days when it was just Zac Dawson. The Hawks finished the day 41 points in front.
Fremantle lost by 41 points.
