Fremantle's Round 3 opponent's have had an unlikely win after the Dockers lost their ruckman midway through the second quarter to an erant knee. After a couple of losses to start their season, Fremantle looked a renewed team in the opening quarter of the derby. There pressure and skills were brilliant, they were well structured and they had a look in their eye that suggested they had seen a side to the coach they'd rather not see again. They took the early lead and, but for the umpires would have been well in front. Halfway through the second quarter, however, Aaron Sandilands hit the deck after Nik Notacluey drove his knee into the All Australian Ruckman's back, brutally bursting his lung open. Sandilands had to be driven from the ground by ambulance, and a small trailer, and Fremantle's grip on the game went with him. The Dockers held on for much of the second term but their defenses started to give way as half time approached and they started letting goals through. Brave but battered, Fremantle fought on in the third quarter but struggled to score. Some brilliance by Matthew Pavlich gave them a look at the lead in the last quarter but their continuing struggle to get first use of the ball made it too big an ask, gallantly missing out on the points by 33.
Fremantle lost by 33 points.
