Doesn't footy suck if you lose round 1!  Let's face it, if we'd lost that wobblies game in Rd 7 noone would've said "Boo" about it really.  However, the hysterical response to the loss this week was just ridiculous.

Not for the first time I completely agree with guy smiley in his Modern Times essay.  It's a shame there isn't voice recording equipment that we could us to cross check callers to redneck radio against our membership database.  Anyone calling in would have a Docker Officer (or ex-player) at their home within minutes to retrieve all membership tickets and purple paraphernalia.

Anyway, on with this weeks rankings (last weeks in brackets)...

  • 1. Geelong (1) - I had a feeling on Thursday night that this could get a little boring. Thankfully some of the other games showed there might be some in-season competition for the top spot.

  • 2. St Kilda (2) - Won a tough game that I'm not sure they'd win that often a year or 2 ago. Do they have the ugliest team in the league? I'd hate to see their membership cards.

  • 3. Hawks (5) - Awesome performance. Franklin is making those who rate him worth more than Judd (me) look smart. On the other hand Melbourne are making those who rated them (me) look entirely stupid.

  • 4. Collingdud (8) - They beat a pretty committed side on the weekend. The bad news for them is that a) Rocca has had his 1 good game for the year and b) Josh Fraser is softer than anyone thought.

  • 5. The Teflon Empire (4) - Unconvincing but they still won. Pity Brown hurt himself or it might have been vastly different.

  • 6. Port (3) - You shouldn't lose close games at home when it obviously means a whole lot more to you than it does to the opposition. Not a crushing loss, but like a few other sides (Freo, Brissie, Synnie) they'll need to go well this week to prevent a rut developing.

  • 7. Freo (6) - Need to start winning those games. I can't help but think that the longer Macca & M. Carr are in our best 22 (and they are right now), the further from the top we'll be. I'd also have to disagree with many who rated Pav's game.

  • 8. Bris Vegas (9) - Really unlucky I thought. Leave JB fit and on the ground the whole game and there's no doubt the result changes. I think they'd be encouraged by that game. Big game for them this week.

  • 9. Essendon (11) - A good win but as evidenced by my previous rankings I just don't rate the Roo's so I can't bump them higher than this yet. I'm not convinced about Knights. I always believed he had his playing shorts high-panted to hide his g-string, I just don't see him transforming in to a good coach. It'd be like Wayne Campbell winning a street fighting title, just too weird.

  • 10. Adelaide (7) - I hope to Jeff they win this week, but I think they'll be bottom 8 this year.

  • 11. Sydney (12) - I know, I know, they lose and go up? I've gone all Barich on you! But you'll get the picture when you see the teams below them. Seriously, who should go ahead of these guys from the teams below?

  • 12. Western Johnsons (14) - They've always been an emotional side and no one gets a Doggie person more excited that beaming Braddie Johnson. I guess what I'm saying is that I want to see them win a game against a team I don't think will suck when Braddie isn't playing his 300th before I get too excited about them.

  • 13. The Should've Gone North's (10) - Beaten by the Bummers who lost Lucas reasonably early. I think I was spot on about these guys right from the start.

  • 14. Richmond (16) - A brief moment in the sun for them. Sometimes winning happens just because the others sucked worse than you did. What idiot put that game on as the curtain raiser for the season? Perhaps more evidence that the AFL House Judd obsession continues?

  • 15. Carltank (13) - News just in, these guys don't need to try to lose, they're amongst the best in the league at doing it without trying. Who cares if they tank? Does it really change the result?

  • 16. Melbums - (15) OK, I patted myself on the back with North, it's only fair for me to acknowledge that only a few weeks ago I had this mob rated 9th. The lesson in this? I'm an idiot.
