OK, we're done with the split and have rounded the penultimate corner prior to the straight.  What do we know?

i) Worsfold is a knob.

ii) Geelong are very, very good.

iii) 3 other teams might give it a shake.

iv) Denial is a river that runs through WCE HQ.

v) Freo won't make the finals.

As it should be by this stage, things are becoming clearer.  However, should the list of real contenders be so easy to see?  If anyone thinks the Premier is coming from anyone other than GFC, HFC or WBFC then they're a bit wobbly up top.  I can accept Synnie but any other nomination will see you convicted of partying in Benny Cousin's closet.

1(1) Cats.  Not a bad effort of showing everyone how big the gap between the contenders and the pretenders is.  That first passage of play where there were 2 non-dominant handed handballs that travelled over 15m and hit the target leading to a shot on goal before anyone in the crowd had even wiped the mullet fringe from in front of their eyes was something special.

2(2) Hawks.  Only beat the bottom feeders by 10 goals but did so with enough scorn and contempt to keep me satisfied.  They are a chance to take it all but would need to be at the very top of their game to do so.  Only a couple of weeks now until we FINALLY see them match up against the Cats.

3(3) Bulldogs.  Comfortable win in the hot Aussie centre.  Doing their thing easily enough to be considerred a real threat, but would need to be better than their best to take it out in my humble opinion.

4(4) Swans.  Slight bump in the road against Collingwood but the form has been too good to throw them away completely just yet.  Wonder if trading Hall becomes an idea by seasons end.  It seems he wasn't missed too much.

5(7)Magpies.  Coming on despite the Carlton hiccup.  Nice to see Thomas have an impact on a game during the hot period against the Swans.  There is 1 rule in the AFL that is yet to be disproven which should worry the 1 C'wood fan that can read.  That rule is that any team that relies heavily on a Rocca AND a Cloke simply cannot win big finals.

6(5) Crows.  Expected a bigger drop after being flogged at home?  I can see the argument but you have to tell me who rises above them?

7(4) Lion.  Just a terrible result against Melbourne.  When you kick a major to go 2 goals up with 2 minutes to play against the D's you should hold on.

8(9) Blues.  Going better at the moment than those above them on the real ladder.  Essendon loss may not have been as shabby as it appeared.

9(11) Saints.  I promised that they would not be in the top 8 until they did something special.  Despite that promise, that isn't what is keeping them out of my top 8, they just aren't that good on current evidence.

10(8) Kangaroos.  It is the games against the Saints that are the hard ones to pick for this mob.  A 50-50 chance in a 50-50 game against a 50-50 opponent.  No result surprises in that instance.  Another of those games looms this week against Port.  if everyone in the media is writing them off, mortgage the house and put it all on them to win.  I guarantee all bets in all forms excluding me actually paying you back the cash.

11(10) Tigers.  Completely folded against Carlton is a gutless last qtr effort.  Will be hard for them all for the rest of the season with what has happened to Polly.  I wouldn't bet aginst them again this year, nor would I bet on them.  Let's hope the Polly recovery is fast and full.

12(14) Bombers.  Signs of life will prove to be life less than ordinary for this mob.  The "bigs" grow old and the kids aren't there.

13(15) Demons.  Found something special in the final few minutes against good opposition.  Thumbs up to all involved.

14(13) Dockers.  Struggled hard after losing some players against the Dons but should have been further up earlier.  Geelong this week for the first of a hat trick of revenge games.  MFC & port to follow before the virtual bye against the scumbags.

15(12)  Port.  Showed plenty against the Dogs.  Plenty of lacey underwear and g-string.  Remeber that this mob has lost noone from the disgraceful GF side from last year.  As wrong as I have been about a couple of teams, I was spot on with this ship of fools.

16(16) Look, A Cheat!  I may have peaked in my vitriol early this season.  I simply cannot find the words to describe how gutless this mob are from top to bottom.  I'll keep thinking and report back next week.
