Frustrated but full of hope.

So what have we learnt after that one?
Downside;
Harvey - The decision to send out such an inexperienced team was the wrong one. We learnt very little other than anything less than our best players on the park is nowhere near good enough. We had the chance of giving the Saints a run for their money and possibly even getting a home final had we put our best side out there. What would that have done for our confidence? Instead the team return home having suffered an embarrassing defeat and we start the season proper with zero confidence and have lost any belief or momentum earned with the two previous NAB wins. Losing is not a problem getting trounced is.
Kepler - Is a clueless substitute ruckman. Try jumping for the ball when its on its way down rather than up.
Walters - A long way off being a suitable stand in for Balla.
Murphy - Once again anonymous for 95% of the game. Hello ? how many times do we need to have him try and fail at AFL level to get the message. HE's NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!
Haselby - A good decision to sign him up for only one more year. He's lost his edge.
Macfee - Absolutly crap, I've seen him twice this year and he adds nothing to the team.
Upside;
It's only the NAB cup and I'm confident that when we do get our best side on the park they'll give anyone a run for their money.
Peake - Thank god we got rid of him.
Barlow - Excellent. A shoe-in for promotion off the rookie list.

I think people are being way too harash on Harvey and the selection of the team. The only people who were rested were Sandi and McPharlin and considering Riewoldt wasn't playing and the conditions the teams faced, it wasnt that big of a deal imo. It wasnt Harves' fault that Frodo, Mundy, Mayne etc got injured last week (commentators were clueless on this as usual). We also played without Hase, Pav, Mcphee, Schammer etc last week so the team wasnt that much stronger last week anyway.
We just lost too a much better team but we were playing away 2 weeks in a row and with a 6 day break so it is understandable with a youngish team. The efforts of our more seasoned players was the main problem with Pav and Hase not having much influence and the likes of Crowley, Schammer, Bradley, Johnno having poor games.
The efforts of Barlow, Broghton, Sos, DeBoer, Duff, Mora were encouraging however and the preseason overall has been reasonable considering.

The Saints are very slick and there is no need to take much from that game.
I think it would have been more demoralising to play our "best team" and come away with a 5-6 goal loss, which may have happened against a team like the Saints at Etihad. If the game had been in Perth, it would have been a different scenario.
Take nothing from that game other than some young players have been given an indication of what it takes to play at the top level. The saints were very serious about winning tonight, despite not having Goddard and Nick in the team.
I do not think the players will lose much sleep over this.

I'm proud of the boys. People will come out and give them a roasting, but don't listen to those haters. I KNOW we are top 4 this year.

It was only a NAB cup game. The real focus is round 1. I'm not fussed. It's a young team on a journey.

Are you sure it was only a NAB Cup game? I'm pretty sure it was the defining moment in the history of the Fremantle Football Club.

Have you seen our first month of football this year? We need to be at our best for that and we can steal a couple of games.
The players out on the park were serious about winning but the coaching panel needs to make decisions with round one in mind.
If Harvey starts resting Sandilands for round two (season proper) because he is to tall to travel and needs a rest, then criticise Harvey to your hearts content.
We have to look at where the two sides are. Unfortunately we are a few good seasons away from being at the Saints level. Remember what they did to the competition last season, apart from GF day.
I know many think we are a top eight side but it is going to be a very long season if we lose a player or two trying to make a GF in the NAB cup.

This topic sums up my thoughts but let me add something I saw as a positive in going into the H & A season.
The young fellas did reasonably well against quality opposition: Hill, Barlow, Broughton, Silvagni, DeBoer and Mora were hard at it all night and they'll be better for having played again at eddy's hat.
Though outplayed by a more experienced side, that had played in last years GF; I thought that our boys endeavour was good.
Duffield showed again that he's going to have a great season. Roger's move to the midfield may be an option during the season. Pav's 9pt goal was a beauty.
We missed Big Aaron and the other boys and most of the forward line structure for season 2010 was missing.
It would've been good to win but in the scheme of things we've lost nothing

No guaranteed we are good enough to win a pre season comp at the minute. WB and Saints are very very good teams, do not foget that. We are not the only team playing this weekend that needs to win a GF
Making the eight is a fifty fifty chance nowadays and depends alot on a few close games and being injury free. That is real footy and will prepare our team for the years to come.
It is the NAB cup for crying out loud.
