Stephen Hill runs onto the ball shaken loose through the middle. He shrugs away a tackle and sends the ball long. Hayden Ballantyne takes possession, is tackled, but swings a handball in the tackle to Chris Mayne, who, in turn, gets it on to Ryan Murphy, who runs into an open goal. Fremantle back in front.

This is what really happened:

Chris Tarrant kicks in with 26 seconds left in the game. He steps on the goalsquare line but there is no call. The kick goes long down the guts. Sandilands, with Ballantyne, Hill and Hayden working hard to get into a roving position, taps the ball forward for Freo. Michael Firrito is in best position to take possession but has trouble controlling the bouncing ball. Just as a stumbling Firrito gets his hands on the ball, Stephen Hill pushes him in the back, right into Nat Fyfe who strips him of the ball. Hill pounces on the loose ball, spins to break a Sam Wright tackle and handballs to Mayne. Mayne handballs to Ballantyne and directs him to go to Murphy who is on his own about 25 metres out from goal. Ballantyne handballs to Murphy who runs into an open goal.
