Homesick

3 years ago I left the sunny shores of W.A.s south west and headed east. A career in the wine industry has seen me end up in a city of ugg boots, flannie shirts, west end beer and churches.
Sometimes I miss the magnificent beaches of the Southwest.
Sometimes I miss the sunset over Yallingup beach.
Sometimes I miss a freshly roasted coffee from the Yalls coffee roasting company on the way to work.
Sometimes I miss a boozy sunday session at Little Creatures.
Sometimes I miss hearing about the antics of a Tiger Woods inspired treasurer.
Today is one of the days the homesickness really kicks in. The monday after another derby win at work and there are about as many eagles fans around at my SA office as there were at the final siren yesterday.
So, all you back there in the west, when you have a dig at all those toast fans at work this morning, make sure you have a little dig for me too.

Couldn't agree more . I take to ringing from the other side of the world while my friends hold the mobile in the air to hear the chant of Freo on the ground. Today it was my friend describing the buzz of Freo after the Derby win. Hmmmm

Moved to Canberra now and I certainly don't miss the amount of crap I was getting back at the office in WA from 95 % of the staff.
On the homesick front, to just look at the Freo crowd on TV makes me feel good ...
...and looking at empty seats at the end of a WCE home derby is still a good watch.

You've got it Matty - I'll rub it in, like I've never rubbed it in before, ALL WEEK LONG.

Thanks Polly, for some reason I get the feeling that you may be a little more painful than the rest of us for a toast supporter to be around.
I am imagining your slime loving colleages streaming out the door 3/4 of the way through the work day whe it gets a little bit tough for them.

here here, matty t. there are a few of us freo lads in armadale and we head down to the local tavern where they get some sort of satellite feed from greenmount so we can watch the games live. it's a great atmosphere, or is that the winnie red smoke, but we all miss our loved ones back home. internet is handy but it's the letters that always make me shed a tear and want to move back. chin up everyone. from rome, to london to adeleide to armadale... we have jobs to do and it's sacrifices we have to make.

Have always thought with all the carp we have had to put up with from the AFL,media and worst of all the slime supporters ( even within your own family ) that it would be oh so sweet when Freo gets it all together. We are finally there folks, getting some respect and I can't get enough of it!!! Strangely, slime supporters don't want to talk footy this morning. Just keep mumbling something bout how we beat Pakistan or something. So Matty,I have a permanent smirk pasted on my face just for you!

I don't make sacrifices, I fly home at 1am on Derby day.
I also can't do the smug rub it in thing. I like to wait for them to bring it up, everybody working and not mentioning it for as long as possible feels just great, and eventually they crack.

As far as rubbing it in is concerned, I'm saying nothing!
I have a day off work and I'm walking around the odd shopping centre in a really noticeable purple and white Freo shirt with our crest on one side and Fremantle on the other. I'm copping intense glares from the odd few slimers still prepared to brave the light of day.
I'm saying nothing, but I'm smiling at every creep who glares at me and loving each and every second of it. Just about to go out again and spread more joy!
