Shane , as much as it sounds made up it was definitely said by Mark Harvey last year.
I am not a cheapass Journo.

Seems like something that would have been quoted everywhere. The coach calling his captain lazy.

No no no,... you are expanding now.
He did not say lazy and it was not said in that context.
The journo asked a direct comparison question of Harvey.
It was after either Pav or Brown played a blinder. (I think )

Well that's how it would have been reported. If the coach is publicly saying that the best player at Fremantle doesn't work as hard as someone else, and would be a better player if he did work harder, then The West Australian would have a picture of Pavlich looking puffed, with banner headlines saying "Welcome to Lazytown".
6PR would still be banging on about how Fremantle are lazy and that players at the Dockers have a free ride. Robert Walls would have written his entire season worth of columns about how Pavlich needed to work harder.
They would have all called for Mark Harvey to be sacked for not getting the most out of his players - if he can't get Pavlich to work hard enough then what hope does he have with a player that isn't perfect.
Unless I was drugged, dragged away, held prisoner in a village somewhere that was guarded by a giant orb thing and missed all of that, I have my doubts.

You would have thought so Shane.
But God is my witness.

Unsourced, it's not a quotation.
But let's put it aside. Pav's no better now than he's ever been. In fact, after the first two rounds weren't the media, followed by a lot of folk on here, saying that we'll be an even better team once Pav comes good? At that stage I think Pav had kicked only 3 goals, and ultimately Pav is always judged by the number of goals he kicks.
Forget what he does in packs, forget what he does at crucial times in a match, forget everything else about Pav's game. If he doesn't kick four goals, there's always the hint that he's been bludging.

I don't entirely agree there WIZ.
Did you see the passage of play from the Richmond game ?
Pav has always been a champ ...no argument but this passage of gut running where there was no guarantee of the ball coming back to him was exceptional.
He sprinted 50-60 metres to create another option upfield. He has definitely lifted this year and I hasten to add that was the view of the panellists on the show FOX AFL TEAMS. ( Lifting in a good side ) was the quote.

I have no doubt Pav has been just as good, if not better in the past. But he's now surrounded by players who can take advantage of what he does.
That supposed Harvey quote is something I would remember if it were mentioned. Even if it was said, I'd have to disagree. Pav spent years in the midield where 'gut running' is a must earning AA seletion. Brown injures himself when ever he starts putting in a bit of effort outside of the 50m arc. Pav is twice the runner Johnno is.

McLeody, I see the point you're trying to make and I saw the same footage on the show.
I think you're erring in relying on a point made on that show to reinforce a point you'd like to make, though.... and the difference is subtle. Pav has always put in the effort... the difference is that this year he has accomplices implicit in that effort. Those muppets on the show are simply sniffing the breeze for the easiest morsel and Freo are flavour of the month for the journos... just wait until we hit a slump after half way through and they'll all be nodding in agreement about how we were always pretenders and can't maintain cinsistency or some such carp along the lines Shane's illustrated.
I've been saying for a couple of seasons that Pav should play the Hird position... that's what he's doing now. Playing where he damn well pleases because he's good enough to know where he's most needed.
Interestingly, someone popped up here a week or so ago and quoted Hird as saying the best forward coach he ever had was... Harves.
Pav's only problem, in my eyes, is that he's just too damn nice.

The Melbourne media carp on endlessly about Brown and Riewoldt. Neither are half as damaging around the ground as Pavlich. They need to be in the forward 50 to be affective.
Right now Pavlich is absolutely outstanding, and a whisker off leading for the Coleman medal.
A season or two back he was out of sorts, plugging too many gaps and filling none. This year my pulse goes up every time he gets near the ball!
His hunger, passion and performance are back. Yes, it helps that the team has lifted: McPharlin, Hayden and Tarrant are more consistent and the midfield has more drive. But Pavlich is still the leader of this team. Let's hope the rewards are there for the commitment he has made.
Too nice? Yes, the man has to have some flaws. But I can't see 'em.

Righto, I'll accept that ..The James Hird role, in which case he is having a huge impact on our team. ( along with the other senior leaders ) I mentioned earlier.
Further, the inference here is I have made up the Mark Harvey comparison to Brown.
There has to be someone on this site who can corroborate my recollection.
I don't come on here and make shit up.

And as far as too nice goes , I think he's getting a little less nice to umpires.
This year is the first time I've seen him having direct arguments with them and gesticulating to them.
He sure gave Schmidt (?) a blast in the Richmond game.
This is Pav saying this is my team and I've had enough of copping it in the neck and rolling over.
