Can't disagree with Mike Sheahan in his call for the umpiring boss to indicate why penalties aren't forthcoming on match days for rushed behinds, staging and the chopping of arms in marking contests.

As far as Freo is concerned, the blatant arm chopping against Pav and Sandi has me baffled as to why they are not rewarded with more free kicks.

That's why Mike Sheehan is an idiot. He knows Jeff Gieschen is a 12 year old girl when it comes to reacting to peer pressure and he knows this week they'll crack down on that sort of thing. Next week, Mike Sheehan will be on the tv complaining that the umpires are too strict.

I tend to think they stop paying these free kicks because they realise they are stupid and that nobody wants them. If everyone politely looks the other way then no one has to lose face and we all get what we want.

Next on the agenda - the watering down of the ridiculously soft push in the back rulings and the return to when prior opportunity meant that the player had an actual prior opportunity and not just three seconds with the football.

So if they started enforcing the chopping of the arm a little more - would that be a good thing or a bad thing. Defenders would be reduced to little more than paddle pop sticks on wheels. They can't push, can't rush behind, can't spoil ......... you get the drift.
Luke is a good one though because he can mark the ball and attempts to most of the time. Taz blurs the line a little as he spoils (chops) more often than not. If you don't get the ball clean then you are gone.
I kind of like the way the umpiring is going in that regard at the moment - there are swings and roundabouts and contentious decisions but in the main if it is not blatant (ie the intention is to go for the arms not the ball) then play on I say. The maggots get enough time in the spotlight as it is.
Don't get me started on the push in the back ...

The umpires need to get back to their original job of "Umpiring" The only influence they should have over the game is to do their job correctly. Maybe it is my imagination but it seems like both teams from Western Australia have higher numbers of poor umpiring decisions go against them which really impact on the game.

wait wait wait... so sandilands indeed has two arms? i thought (and clearly, so did the umpires) that the dockers are obliged to include a few one armed people in the squad, just like road crews.
