I agree completely with Eddie. Why the hell do umpires need to know there's a minute left (and what else are they getting told throughout the day?). Anderson's answer is so they can prepare for the siren What? DO THEY GET FRIGHTENED BY THE LOUD NOISE?

Do they have to place their order for tea and fairy cakes?
Or do they need to know if they should award a few free kicks to ensure the desired outcome of the game? or even to know when the last chance to even the free kick count comes?

I gathered he meant that Hansie justified his actions by saying it didn't effect the outcome when he was giving weather information and the inside word on selections. I'm sure Eddie will elaborate for us at some point. Several times.

The fact that they didn't tell anyone that the umpires were hooked up to an outside person, a non umpire, is reason enough to be worried about what goes on.

I assume Gieschen isn't on the end of the line every time so who else does it and what process in place to stop them giving out the Betfair odds?

I don't need to go near them Bill cos now that I've heard the audio I realise it is done solely to avoid another sirengate. Anderson's explanation is clear and unambiguous, it's so the umpires are alert and don't miss the siren.
Which is clearly a good thing because I can think of at least 1 game in the history of the sport where the umps didn't hear the siren.

Why can't the siren sound through the earpiece then? or why can't the siren just be professionally installed and tested.
