From the afl game preview ...

PLAYER TO WATCH
Fremantle: David Mundy is due to play his 113th consecutive match since his debut in round six, 2005, which is equal to the fourth-best streak from debut by any player in the game’s history. Mundy is Fremantle's fourth-highest possession gatherer this year and sixth on the list of scoring contributions.

People were apologizing to players they've bagged previously - on Mundy's form so far in 2010 I owe him an apology and a couple of cases of Corona.

Corona? Didn't realise you hated him that much.

David is a cultured and elegant gentleman I think a carton or two of Little Creatures or one of the James Squire brews is the least you owe him.

Hey 2Rox , that's a backhander if I ever saw one.

You don't get to 113 straight if you can't play.

Sheesh !!

I'm with McCloudy on this one. David Mundy looks laconic but he definitely can read the game.
His goal against the Saints was a ripper and his play was consistently good.
113 games straight from debut is testament to how the coaching staff view his value to the team. An enormous performance.
Full congrats to David Mundy.

Not really....No.

In the previous 100 games he has been predominantly in defence. That is a defence in a mostly losing side.

His performance in that, usually under attack defence, has been very sound. Indeed he has always been mister reliable in my opinion with a superior disposal efficiency rating to others.

There is no other player in the Fremantle squad I would prefer to have the ball in his hands than David.

In short his kicking is magnificent.

This year he has been given a new responsibility and it isn't a coincidence in my view that this has coincided with an impressive winning run. He has been integral in our improved midfield performance.

I have posted on this site many times in defence of David Mundy. He has been a much maligned player.

I am a bit bemused that... now.... after our impressive start to the season, many on here are proclaiming him as a greatly improved player.

I find that very condescending.

I mentioned many times in the past year or two Manic's role in the side was more defensive. We had no midfield and were forced to play a bunch of kids who were still learning the caper. Thus Manic's role was more defensive and I noted several occasions on dockerland that you could see him line up on the defensive half of any ruck contest.

With our present structures and personel, Manic is able to play some more attacking footy.

It's no surprise. He's always been a star.

I don't dispute any of that but I reckon there were times when we were getting smashed, especially on the road, he raised the white flag. As a fan that rubbed me the wrong way.

Maybe part of what people are seeing and liking this year is David Mundy also reckons we're a chance to make the 8 and give a few people a scare which has sharpened his focus.

Look back at some of the no talent footballers we've had who gave everything they had every week ... they would have killed for a bit of Mundy's class.

Well I don't apologise for narking at him in previous seasons because I truly thought he was carp but I am certainly jumping onto the Mundy love train this season.
He has fast become a superior player in mine eyes.
His skill in the centre and at bounce ups has been wonderful.

Whatever Fremantle have done to get this work out of him I certainly hope they keep it up!!
