Gold coast and tha grand final

I didnt realise that the fixtures would change so much, the awful really are getting greedy are they not. Whats the bet that freo will come out second best in all this.

I'd be happy with second best. I'm thinking 17th best though.

What's the magic of 22 rounds? As far as I can tell it's a completely arbitrary number.

i'd be willing to bet that they made a deal with the clubs to keep the number of games in the home and away season constant.

so, how old is the 'last saturday in september' tradition, and just how little does it cost to sucker the AwFuL into breaking tradition?

we'll probably see gold coast playing essendon on anzac day next year.

17 rounds

This reeks of Eddie - just think... the Pies won't have to leave the MCG - not even to travel to Docklands. I also suspect that out of the 17 rounds, Freo will have to travel 9 times which means we only get to see 8 home games... I wonder if they will drop the price because of it - Ha bloody Ha.

The competition seems to be doomed to get even more unfair to the out-of-victoria sides and to be reverting back to the old VFL. It will never be a fair comp until sides play each other home and away and this is a huge step backwards IMO.

Phew. I feel better now. Thank you friends.

I've reckoned that's what they should do for years. It just seems logical.

It makes every game more important and it should give the players a couple of weeks off during the season which should mean better football.

But I don't quite see how Collingwood get an advantage so I might be missing something.

I think playing each team once is actually fairer than playing some teams once and others twice in an arbitary fashion like we do now. The problem will be we play an uneven number of home and away games due to it being a 17 week season.

But I thnk they should have 18 rounds with the 18th round being a rivarly round. This way we get to play the Oftits twice a yearandare guaranteed 9 games at Subiaco each year.

I like the 'northern expansion' perspective - did we get that when we came in (we're 'north' of Melbourne, aren't we)?

I think I may have said this before:

After Gold Coast and the GWS come in there will be anothe two teams to enter the competition i.e.Tasmania and Northern Territory.

The AwFL will then split the competition into two groups of ten. The ten non-Victorian clubs and the ten Interstate clubs. Play each other home and away then finals of four teams in each group with the winners playing off in the Grand Final.

That way the AwFL will get a Victorian club in the Grand Final each year.

I can't see the season being shortend to a 17 week season. Although it makes more sense and would be fairer it also means less money for the Big D his minions at the AFL.

And i think we all know that when it comes to a choice between money and fairness what he will choose.

As for moving the GF into October if they only have 1 bye per team and keep it a 22 game season then there would be no reason to move the grand final as we already hve a split round.

I'm no mathematician but how would each team only have one bye and keep a 22 round season?

I'd say start the season earlier, swap the preseason comp for a couple of warm up games, the only problem I suppose would be the heat
