Which is it? Is it about expectations or is it that Sandilands wasn't as good as Naitanui? You're all over the shop.
The premise for the argument here is that Sandilands just monstered his way through one of the top ruck divisions in the top side in the competition and was beaten out for best ruckman, albeit in a poxy theme side that carries no weight at all, by a novelty act who had very little of the ball in the worst match of the round.
It's not that everyone else is a stupid one eyed biggot or can't understand the concept of highlighting a stand out one off performance over a classy regular contributor.

Calling him an exotic animal isn't racist, it's quoting the media.

I'm not a Duff fan so no point asking me to put him in the team. He might get a lot of it, but he often uses it poorly. Sandilands doesn't.
So if Sandilands plays for the first 5 minutes against Richmond and sets up a 2 goal lead and Freo are not headed for the rest of the game, can we name his as first ruck next week?

Well Shane its obviously a combination of the 2 isnt it.
Again i believe Nic Nat deserved his best 22 spot. However now even he builds an expectation so if he puts in exact same performance for next 4 weeks he will have to do something exceptional again to get the votes in following weeks.
Sandilands has built that expectation about him, and although he was dominant and played well as a Docker supporter i didnt think he was as influential as first 3 games.
Barlow has built up that rep within 2 games. His 16 possession game against the Premiers was highlighted as flat by many on here. This is a first year player in his 3rd game against the best midfield going around. Even his 28 touches on weekend people were saying he wasnt quite there!
Expectations has much to do with it, but again Nic Nat was better this weekend.

Ryder v Nic Nat (head to head/mop)
k 4 v 6
h 8 v 7
d 12 v 13
m 2 v 1
tack 6 v 5
ho 16 v 17
goals 2 v 1
from a stats perspective it's debatable if he was even the best ruckman in the game, let alone the round.

So you are doing Naitanui a disservice then by suggesting it was expectations. If he was better he was better. The thing is, he wasn't.

But he only had the ball 13 times.
He is either so 'kin brilliant that he can single-handedly win a game with 13 touches, or he had a few fluky things happen.
Of course the third possibility is that he was the best of a carp bunch.
But the more I think about it, the more I think they wanted to get his RS nomination out of the way before Sandi burst the medja bubble that's been created around him.

Well cant argue with such 1 eyed supporters.
Im all for giving other teams a bit but a great performance is a great performance and Nic Nat was great on weekend. He had an influence with his touches.
Im done with matter as it will just go back and forth all day.
Lets just keep pointing to stats from now on and not bother watching games. Thats why people lose on Brownlows because they think a 30+ possession game automatically means votes when someone who kicks 3 goals and only has 12 touches can be the game winner.

I have one more question. If NicNat gets the gig because he set up a win, and Sandilands missed out because his team lost, then why did Pav get a guernsey?
