Goddard apologises
#304660
Apparently kicked footy at cheer squad and hit a young (9 year old) fan who was hurt. Has rung the young boys family and apologised.

They should give us the four points for bad sportsmanship!

I've had enough of this. It's one thing for the Eagles supporters to be jumping ship when their team is struggling but now we've got their marking coach joining the Freo cheersquad.

No surprises here. This is the same team that delivered us Sirengate. They now have the pre and post game bookends covered with this highly controversial Cheersquadgate.

it actually looked deliberate. he looked at the open goal and saw the dockers cheersquad and the sort of croud he'd expect for a top of the table clash in melbourne (empty seats)... instead of doing any sort of normal kick he kicked as hard as he could straight at the squad.

I noticed this at the time on tv and I'm sure it was deliberate. Not only did he kick the ball as hard as he could but also end over end instead of a drop punt to make it harder to avoid in the crowd. He also glared at the crowd after the kick. I was so angry at the time but even angrier when I heard on Footy Classified that he hurt a young boy. It was a disgraceful act but at least he apologised.

He didn't glare at the crowd at all. He ran in and kicked the ball as hard and as straight as he could. Then he ran back to his spot. Wouldn't have even known someone was hurt.

It was exactly what de Boer should have done last week.

I was in the 2nd tier directly above the young boy and saw it clearly.

He looked straight at the target and kicked the ball low and flat straight at the boy.

It had to be low and flat to clear the fence to hit his target.
This was just a youngster and it totally flattened him. He appeared to be knocked out and his father laid him out across the chairs.

The boy stayed like that for quite some time.

I also noticed that Steven Milne appeared to be disturbed by what happened and a little later he had a similar opportunity and just trickled the ball at the fence.

To my mind Milne was making a point.

Goddard you are a total Barstand.

The AFL should investigate an incident which has brought the game into disrepute.

If you sit behind the goals, the chances of being hit by a kicked football probably go up a fair bit. So, watch out.

That is true Mike, but this was about 4 rows back and the kick had to be targetted low to clear the fence .

This was completely wilful and, further, it wasn't even the cheer squad. ( they were to the left of this boy ).

This was an incident that should have repercussions ; this has brought the game into disrepute.

There's not the slightest doubt that this wasn't an accident.

I'm prepared for a stat dec.

I'm with you McLeody but I think you've got the wrong man.

On the run, after three quarters of football, on a slippery surface - there's no way he could have produced a kick with the absolute precision you describe. Goddard was a patsy. A fall guy. A stooge for the man.

I put it to you that there was a second kicker on the terraced knoll. It was his kick that knocked the youngster in the head and forced him to lie down for a few moments. It was he who kicked the nasty blow, knowing full well that Goddard would be fingered on his way back to the centre and take the wrap.
