The Dome

It was a really good showing by the boys but today it seemed that the Dome is such a shite place to play our style of footy.
They beat us in the clearances and then throughout the last quarter it seemed they had the extra energy to exploit the extra 2 days break (and no travel) advantage they had over us.
That said, there were a few mysteries out thereaa:
Hayes seemed to be caught a lot and was certainly not his usual creative self.
Dessie put on one monster tackle but I am wondering whether he should get a run in the midfield sometimes when we play at the dome. He was out of the play for large periods but I am wondering if that has something to do with the shape of the ground.
Balla was great in the first quarter but I did not notice much after that period. Would love to see him get a run in the midfield next time we play that mob; especially if they are beating us at the clearances.
MacPhee did a few good bullocking things but gee I wish he'd hold onto his marks.
Love the work of Clancee Pearce, Silvagni, Broughton,Barlow, Hill, Van Berlo's tagging role on Monatagna.
It was a tough game but we should have learned a lot from it.

We went into that game with a total of 9 players who had done two or less AFL pre-season's.
Two: Broughton, Hill, Van Berlo, De Boer, Pearce, Ballantyne
One: Silvagni, Morabito, Barlow.
The level we have played at over the last four weeks and in particular the first three quarters of the game today, is without precedent for a young AFL team.
Nine players. At any one time half the team.
Oh yeah and drop Mcphee.

Flinchy took a monster of a mark and whacked a monster of a goal when we needed it - but, not sure if he is better suited off the halfback.
We're a very, very good side at the hard fought ball, so we should be able to tough it out in a smaller paddock. We could've won today but they had the poise/legs in the final quarter. Take one of those three that they kicked on us early in the 4th and we would have shaken their momentum.
They were about to crack a few times in the game - had we got clear a bit, they were gawn. As it was, they got the better of us - barely.
