At the umpiring. The boys played well today. A few costly turnovers. Some players went missing. Mcphee hot and cold. But some of the calls and non calls were just plain atrocious but typical. Momentum killing tiggy touchwood frees paid in a high intensity good match and then obvious one going freo's way not called. WTF????? How was Mcphee not tripped and then taken high, nup, play on - goal. Great game, Freo has got a team that is going places. Minor hiccup, Richmond are in for an angry pounding next week.

Indeed.
Can anyone kindly explain what the 50m penalty was for? The one in the 4th quarter that led directly to Milne putting the Saints 2 goals up early in the 4th.
Huge momentum-builder for St Kilda, and it had no basis in reality for being called.

Hope we don't go in next week expecting an easy win and the drop it!
I want a huge percentage boost over the next two weeks!

Milne. So bloody good. So bloody dirty. Who was he trying to trip up by getting his feet in between theirs as they were running?

I think the 50 was for a push in the back 'after the mark' The fact that it happened during the mark had no bearing in the vacant space occupied by the maggot in question.
The 50 wasn't there, but it did ensure St Hildas got a lead...which was the whole idea

What about that blatant trip to mcPhee? If that's not a trip I don't know what is. The guy had his ankle in his grip! GAH!

Have to say I didn't think it was that bad. Sure there were a few non decisions that should have been paid but generally it was better than most games we get.

I'm trying to be philosophical about the umpires relationship to FFC in 2010.
So here's my read:
- Teams that win tend to get a better deal (we're a work in progress). The Egirls of Judd, Kerr, and Cousins were all protected species. Geel get an armchair ride because they're expected to win and heaven forbid you're the muppet umpire that cost them a game by paying a free to the opposition or not giving Chappy, Ablett, Johnston a kick they're screaming out for.
- Teams from Vic always get a better deal (move on it's never going to change)
I reckon we've done alright this year. Sandi is starting to get frees for ruck infringments as people scrag him to combat his size, next stage is when they chop his arms inside 50. We definitely got a few kicks inside 50m for holds and push-outs) i.e. (Pav, Balla, etc), and our midfielders - Mundy etc got a few for being held off the ball. We never got these kicks in '08, or '07.
Win more games = win more love from the umps. It'll come.

Umpiring was fine.
Today, in round 4, St K were better than us. But I can't wait for the rematch, because everything I saw today indicated that when we get a tiny bit more self-confidence we'll take them. And everyone else.
By round 18, I reckon we'll be awesome.

On the right hand side of the page is a caption, Forum Tools. Does that have any reference to the people posting here?

can't blame the umps, bla bla bla, etc etc.
Do you reckon they had a special ceremony where Reiwoldt handed his protected status over to Goddard?
