The forgotten man
#302284
Pre-Barlow and injury, he was my number one pick for being elevated off the rookie list. However given that we have already upgraded three rookies this season;
-Brownlow
-Van Berlo
-SCOSS
I'm not sure where he stands as a rookie. Can he still get in the side or does he now need to wait to be elevated on the back of someone being listed as an LTI?

Are you talking about the admirable Matt De Boer?

Okay, then, I'm with you. De Boer is potentially a 200 game player with our club, and we need to find a way for him to get the football education his main list and rookie peers will have this season in preparation for our looming premiership window.

He had a really badly timed injury in the pre-season, but I've got no doubt our excellent coaching and player management team will get him the 10-15 games (plus two or three finals) Matt will need to stake his claim as one of the tough nuts in our championship engine room.

(Boy, am I on message or what?)

Freo's start to the season is widely regarded as being very tough. A cynic would say it was intended to crush us.

The Dockers' second half of the year by comparison is favourable.

That said, in a twenty two week season , by the mid-season break we could be a very exhausted outfit particularly considering the number of young players we are playing.

With the talent Freo has on the rookie list, Deboer included, this may prove very advantageous in the run home.

After the great start we have had, and if we get over Geelong, the match committee would be prudent in starting to plan for our player requirements for the second half of the season.

With a relatively rich list of talent now and save for any serious injuries it is not arrogant to think of team A and team B.

This season could be paced nicely with the potential returns, strategically of course, of DeBoer, Palmer, Grover, Dodd, Schammer, Ruffles, Bradley and probably someone else.

I'm not putting the horse before the cart here but Deboer is really a luxury for Freo, along with the others.

Late edit : Clancee Pearce, also.
Later edit : Cart before the horse. ( Freudian Slip )

Yes.

Sunday's game was Classic form by Hase.

He and Pav can now play a different role for Freo.

Same can be said of Luke McPharlin; two of the best games I've seen from him.

DeBoer and Pearce will be on the main list, just gotta wait.

You never know there could be a retirement or two this year and others could be let go from the Rookie list.

I bet my money on both of em being upgraded in the draft later in the year.

Thanks Gover; I think that's what I was trying to say.

You won't get any of my money.

Other blokes waiting in the wings for a match this year are Walters, Book-of-arse, Hinkleberry, BOB, Scotty too hotty and exZachary,

Was also impressed by Fyfe, Bollenhagen and Roberton in the NAB cup

Depth finally!

Yeah, it is fantastic depth.

I thought it was really smart giving a lot of these guys some run time in the NAB cup.

It is going to be wonderful to see Zachary put on a few more kilos and gain more match experience.

The thing I like about our young guys is that so many of them have the 'footy smarts'.

Barlow, Silvagni, Broughton, Hill, Morabito, DeBoar, and Ballantyne have seriously good footy talent and genuine footy smarts.

It is great to see their confidence rub off on both the senior players and the other young guys coming through.

Apologies if I have missed any other guys out.
