Funny, because I went on Obama's mailing list during the '08 presidential campaign and still get little "personal" notes from him now about what's coming up, issues he's facing etc etc. (Well, me and about 30 million others, I guess). The one in my inbox this morning makes it pretty clear he's well aware of the MJ connection:
Zorro --
The Dockers are playing Geelong this coming Sunday, and my brother Mike Johnson and I have a message about what we all need to do next.
When we started this season, very few people thought we would make it this far. But we put our faith in the power of ordinary supporters like you coming together and building a movement for the flag from the bottom up. And that's exactly why we're here.
I'd like you to think about this special message -- and I have a request.
We have our team, and this week the eyes of the entire country will be on it. Now is the time to take the next step and own a piece of this AFL season.
Get to the game and descend like a purple tide on the Cats this Sunday!
Zorro, you support the Dockers because you're ready for real change in this town and the AFL.
Over the next five days, posters on dockerland.com will define what change means and highlight our differences with the mob up the road to everyone who's prepared to listen. We'll show the change we will be bringing the competition on tackling pressure, youthful energy, ruck domination and the issues that affect all football supporters. As my vice-president Joe Biden (himself a HUGE Dockers’ man) put it as we left Etihad Stadium on Sunday: “Mr President, this is f*&cking big!”
But make no mistake about what we're up against. The WA football media has embraced the same old footy politics of fear, diversion and Karl Langdon-style attacks -- which makes sense coming from people who’ve fallen into line with the Eagle’s machine literally 95% of the time.
From the very beginning, this season has been in your hands. Now more than ever, we're counting on you to see it through.
Way to Go? Yes we Can!!
