Overheard on the train

Crows supporter suggesting that Adelaide had gifted Pav to Freo. His rationale was that having had the option of Pavlich, the Crows had chosen "Bloody Ken Macgregor." He then pointed to a skinny 13 year old boy and spewed out "Mate- not only could I play better than Macgregor, you could have too!.
Very funny.

I thought Bock was the choice they claimed to have made at the time. Can anyone be arsed to confirm it one way or the other?

From memory (which is always a risk), Hase was No 2, Pav went 4 and Leroy 'The Anvil' Brown went 5 in which case Pav and Brown were interchangeable and Adelaide could just as easily claim Brown if he'd turned out to be the uber player that Pav is.

Reading up a little on how this came about, it seems the Crows had available to them a draft choice of a 17yo player in the 1998 draft which was used on Ken McGregor. He was chosen at No 75, and played over 150 games for the Crows.
Not sure how or why they got this pick - I'm guessing it may have had something to do with concessions to clubs with the introduction of Port Adelaide into the competition the previous season, or that it may have been the general rule back then that clubs could draft one 17yo player.
McGregor had already played league in the SANFL. Pav was drafted in 1999.
