Harvs & Discipline 2010 style

Did anyone else notice in the first 2 minutes.....Chopper evaded 2 Adelaide players and then had an shot on goal and missed rather than popping an easy handball over to Ballas who would have ran in to an open goal.
The result - runner out, straight off for a stern talking to and a bit of time on the pine.
Well done Harvs - a clear message that selfish play and not playing for the team will not be accepted this year. It would not have happened in the last few years. I like it

Certainly noticed. And might I say that every Freo player would have noticed, too.
i) Lesson learned by Mayne.
ii) Lesson learned by our first year players.
iii) Lesson re-inforced to the experienced players.
Mighty good to see.

They talked about this passage of play a lot on the TV.
I watched it the few times they replayed it and am of the strong opinion he would have been stupid to pass the ball in that situation.
The worst thing he did was MISS the goal.
But you cant tell me any player that plays a forward position should pass the ball when they are running straight at the goals and only about 35meters out.
Its all well and good to say a couple of players were in front of him to pass it to, but in my eyes he did the right thing and his only stuff up was missing a pretty easy shot on goal.

smidge, I don't disagree. Of the two players in front of him, Ballantyne was calling for the ball, and Johnson, who was closer to goal, was calling for Mayne to take the shot himself - he's there to kick goals and that's what he should do.
Team rules are team rules though and it's a welcome sight to see them being reinforced. I do wonder if the same thing would have happened had he passed the ball over the top and somehow messed it up?
