How do AFL talent scouts measure ability to win the football, think clearly under pressure, know where to stand on a football field in order to get a kick and how to read the play?

You get the feeling there is a set of predetermined KPI's that have to be met at draft camp: how high you jump and beep tests and the natural footballers just get left out.

I think we go straight to the VFL from now on and skip the draft.

And miss out on players like Hill and Palmer?

Let's keep the feet on the ground.

According to the AFL site, Barlow had 33 possessions and broke Bradd Dalziell's record of 32 possessions on Debut.

www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/20...d/91210/default.aspx

However, when watching the replay of the game, they said he was one short of the record, which was Greg Williams on 34.

Anyone know who's right?

Spewing he's a year too old to be nominated for Rising Star.

Has anyone won the Brownlow in their first year?

"Only two players have won the Brownlow Medal in their first season.

Fitzroy's Haydn Bunton was 19 when he won the first of his three Brownlow Medals. He won the medal in his first two seasons, 1931 and 1932, and collected his third in 1935.

Bunton also won three Sandover Medals, Western Australia's equivalent to the Brownlow.

Footscray's Brad Hardie also won a Brownlow in his first season, 1985. He was 22."

that's from the herald sun.

so a brownlow win would put him alongside one of the greatest players in history.... and brad hardie.

as for betting, barlow has tumbled into $126. worth a tenner i'd say.

I don't want to confuse the Victorians but Brad Hardie wasn't in his first season of league football when he won their local medal.

Love it!

Baz just asked Woosha if Barlow was ever on their recruiting radar.

Answer along the lines of "recruiting guys have a very good scan of whose available so they certainly would have been aware of Barlow"

What does that say about their recruiting guys??

Only to see what they said I recorded channel eagles news. just watched Woosha interview, that club is a rabble. The carp Woosh comes out with.....

Going on about Cox being 100 percent fit but not match fit.

I hope we win all games, but I really wanna see us flog them in this first derby this year. I am hoping this is our time and I hope they have no more than 2 wins and 4 loss cum the derby.

Channel Eagles had a great run down on Barlow. Showed the team showering the newies with powerade singing the song...great.

On nine news, Pav was smiling wider than the Cheshire Cat on the new Alice in Wonderland flic. Thommo interviewing him sounded so excited about Freo.
