Last week Leaping Leo Barry did us proud. This week it was Leaping Leo Larry. dockerland?s Showground Larry put in a belter of a run at Cannington last night finishing a grinding 2nd. It got the dockerland Syndicate back on track and earning a few oxford scholars and began a great night for dockerland?s super trainers, Helen and Peter Sayer. They finished with two winners, one at 20/1, and three placings.

In just his second run in WA Showground Larry used the red alley to his full advantage. After last week when, on the first turn, he took a hit like only Troy Cook can deliver we didn?t know how he was going back up. He?d shown during the week he?d taken no harm from the collision but how would he handle the first bend this week?

Well Larry pinged the lids but then seemed to lose his footing and slightly knuckled over. He regained his balance without losing too much ground and thankfully he was given room to make his way to the first turn. He snuck underneath the pack that was bearing down on him and set out after the leader, Mr Finance, who had jumped from the stripes.

There was the possibility weighing on our minds that the Larry may be a run or two short as he had only been around twice over the past two and a half months. Down the back straight he took ground off Mr Finance and was looking half a chance. He couldn?t quite bridge the gap but he wasn?t going away. Larry stuck on, dug deep, and had another crack at reeling in the leader turning for home. Knowing how he switches football teams at the drop of a hat, Larry had Gary ?The Guru? Wilson changing his tip to and from the Showground in running in the home straight several times. However the gap was too much to close and again he couldn?t quite get there. The run short was starting to tell. At least we hope he was a run short.

Larry fought on admirably and while tiring he managed to hold the pack behind him and grab second place. It was a run full of merit and it got the dockerland Racing Syndicate back onto the podium albeit left of the middle. The placing has guaranteed Larry a start next week and even better he saw $600 jump in to the dockerland account and keep the funds ticking over.

It?s been a long road and tough task getting Larry over his injuries and back to the track. Peter and Helen Sayer have done a sensational job with him and we can?t thank them enough for their perseverance.

Racing radio?s Craig Evans handed the calling duties over for the race. We believe he couldn?t stomach the possibility of a Freo victory after making the trip to the Gee last weekend to watch his imposters?I mean Eagles get carved up. So after ducking for cover he called in the services of another West Coaster, Peter O?Neil. Pete lined dockerland up on Greyhound Gossip on Thursday night and went about handing us a pasting. It was a fearful spray that had the brutal force of a bad sneeze. I don?t want to completely call Pete soft but I?ve deadset heard Murray go off better when he?s trying to Wake up Jeff. We were expecting and hoping for a bit better effort to give us something we could retaliate to but, like Quentin Lynch attempting a chest mark, it bounced right off with out us breaking stride. However, he?s half a good bloke Pete and he gave the dockerland Syndicate and Showground Larry a big wrap and put in an unbiased top class call.

So hopefully we go around again next Saturday night. There?s a rough hope that Larry?s brother Sheriff Austin will be raring to go. It could be the night we?ve been waiting for. A dockerland double.

Well done to dockerland Syndicate member Dazzler Dan Biddle on a magnificent training performance getting Sheriff and Larry?s sister, Kalden Rose, up for a fantastic win over the grueling 715 metres. Good on you Dazzler you left us stranded. 20/1 and you tipped us nothing.
