What a way to kick off the upcoming season on. He?s done it again. The big Larry went around at Cannington last night grabbing the checkered flag to notch up his fifth win for the dockerland Syndicate, his fourth win in Western Australia and his third win this year. The five length belting Showground Larry handed his rivals was a magnificent spectacle and we?re tipping it was a small taste of what will occur this Sunday arvo at Subiaco.
Showground Larry finally managed to draw the valuable number one box and he wasn?t about to let the rare opportunity slide by not making the most of it. He jumped beautifully and made his way cleanly to the first turn where he sat patiently in third place waiting to strike. As they navigated the bend the gap opened up for him. Well that was all that was needed. It was like Larry had spotted a booze bus, jumped out of the Benz and did the Harold Holt. He was off and gone all while evidently failing to hear the chasing dogs barking at him to stop. Larry was going that well he didn?t even need the decoy to throw the chasers off the scent. In the blink of the eye he?d put a few lengths on the field as the home turn approached. At the top of the straight it was ?Thank Christ I?ve outrun the coppers.? It was all over. The Showground went on to win confidently by a ripping five length margin.
dockerlanders on course celebrated the victory hard. Then when the Cannington lights went out after the last the partying shifted, coincidently, down Applecross way to a very nice establishment, of which the name escapes me at the minute. In any case everyone still had their shirts on so all were admitted.
Well done to dockerland?s trainer Peter Sayer for getting Larry over the line. Pete and Helen, Foreman Glen, Nifty Neville and handler Michael have done a sensational job. Showground Larry began racing in Western Australia twenty two weeks ago. In that time he has gone around Cannington an incredible twenty one times, picking up four wins, one second and four thirds totaling almost $10K in stake money. Keeping a dog up and fit for that period of time is a magnificent effort so it?s not the slightest surprise Team Sayer are leading the trainer?s premiership. We?re going for the 2006 Sayer / Dockers premiership double. Get on board.
