If you're backing the Docker dogs at the minute you'd be pretty sweet on yourself and living large. It seems anything Fremantle Dockers in the greyhound industry is going gangbusters and hopefully it won't end anytime soon. The Telethon people should be throwing everything, they collected, on the Docker dogs. Sure heart attacks may ad to the needing treatment list but don't tell me that wouldn't give the sick kids a kick along.

Saturday night at Cannington dockerland's Showground Larry exceeded expectations and put in a bottler of a run to snare third place in a red hot field. Straight up though, we apologize to Dean Starkie who trains the dog that was in box four. Larry, as he does, gives the biggest Troy Cook style hip and shoulder to whoever is drawn in the box on his left. This time in it was Dean's dog and Larry put him out of contention. Anyway Showground Larry put in a huge effort running third and returned a massive $4.80 for the place. Good luck to you if you got a piece of that. Had it not been for a touch of bother just before the home turn he could have made things very interesting on the winning post. What was further interesting was that Larry's time of 31.22 seconds would have won two of the other grade five Canning Stakes and placed second in another one. The big Showground is very close to a win.

Thanks to dockerland Syndicate Member Davo for getting out there and taking a very nice shot of Larry and Larry's handler, The Foreman (Glen Price), on the podium.

Keeping on the Docker Dog theme, last Tuesday another of dockerland's runners, Vivify, trained by the amazing T-Rad also ran a very nice third at Mandurah. The Viv will line up again on Thursday out in the seven box in race seven. Last Tuesday Vivify was in race five jumping from box five. Saturday just gone Larry jumped from box five in race five and now Vivify is race seven box seven. I don't know if there is anything in that but we may have to call in that guy from that Numbers tv show.

Wednesday last week the Fremantle Dockers owned Whaler Widd somehow saluted first. The four year old 20 plus start veteran overcame a slow start to hit the front in the home straight to punch out a tough debut Cannington win. The Whaler has been dealt a very harsh penalty for winning that race. He has been unfairly graded into a mixed 3 & 4 race this Wednesday. Its very harsh as he is four years old, back from an injury he shouldn't have gotten back from, has won just three races over all and just the one race at Cannington and he won it in a time of 31.40 seconds. So it's safe to say he will struggle this week. But on brighter news the Docker's new hound called Purple Haze went very nicely in its qualifying trial at Mandurah last week and ran second in a very handy 23.90 seconds. It will debut this Thursday under the very slick hands of Dean "Hutch" Starkie at the same track in race eleven jumping from the checkered box two.

Last but by no means least; The Spy's Docker Dessie took out the Wangaratta final on Saturday in a slashing 22.86 seconds, just four lengths outside the track record. The Dessie is just getting better with age and justified his very short price of $1.50 to take the win. He made the heat and final his own winning both with the greatest of ease. The dog is a freak. At over four and a half years of old he's putting away his rivals that are half his age and there are no signs of him slowing up at all.
