Finally we?ve been handed a decent box. Showground Larry has drawn the prized red alley this Saturday night. Helen and Pete Sayer have reported Larry was knocked around in his race last Saturday but has taken no harm from it. He has been working a treat and is feeling a million bucks. Hopefully he takes advantage of the red box and puts a score on the board and breaks the dockerland podium finishing drought.

Showground Larry goes around in race five being the first leg of the Quaddie. He is a silly chance from the red. When he won his race at the Gold Coast for us he took a forward position early and then railed beautifully underneath them on the first turn to skip away for a big victory.

The field isn?t overly strong. But as always something pops their head up and runs a big race. It?s pretty much a race where everything needs to lead to be a certainty. If Typhoon Blaze leads clearly then the race looks all over. But assisting Larry is pace in the two, three and four box. Helen and Pete Sayer?s other runner Coulta Ash can carve out some time on its night and it has been racing against much tougher opposition. It drops down to grade five so improvement there wouldn?t be surprising. And finally as always Linda Britton has something smart in the race. Wassa Reltub is in the box 8 and while the winning percentages of box 8 are horrific it does look a genuine chance. The seven dog Typhoon Blaze may give it the cart across early.

It?s a race that on paper when having a quick glance over, every runner has a genuine chance. Usually you can rule a line through two or three runners and say they?re impossible. Without thoroughly going through the form I can?t rule a definitive line through anything in this race. The best thing is in a race such as this where its damn near impossible to be confident on finding the leader, the one box comes into play enormously and is a big asset.

So let?s hope Larry can get us back on the right side of the ledger. He?s drawn well, pulled up ok from last week?s demolition and is working a treat. The field isn?t overly tough but there are some quick dogs, on their night, in it. Possibly with this only being his second run in about two and a half months he could still be a hit out short. Time will tell.

Another star attraction on the card is the return of the mighty Whaler Widd. The Fremantle Dockers, led by Kelly O?Donnell, purchased this young hopeful superstar back earlier this year. He had three starts for a very nice second placing. Bigger and better things looked on the cards but then devastation hit the Dockers like it did dockerland. The Whaler broke down horrendously and looked never to race again. However, through the magnificent efforts of Helen and Pete Sayer they have gone out of their way and spent an enormous amount of time getting Whaler back to the track. It was mission impossible. It then went to mission highly unlikely, mission a remote possibility, mission more of a possibility; mission probably and finally will end up being mission accomplished this Saturday night. The Whaler is back! He has drawn the disgraceful green box out in the six so he hasn?t been handed any favours. For a first up hit out after about seven months we?re all hoping that the Whaler can just get around safely, uninjured and possibly sneak into a place.

We said Fremantle Dockers and fans will be taking over the WA greyhound industry. This is the beginning. Now all we need are a couple of dogs that can actually run a bit.

So Saturday night should be a cracker. If you?ve got nothing on and you?re not watching the joyous, magnificent mark of Leaping Leo Barry over and over then come down to Cannington and do your best. The dockerland and Docker Dogs will be doing their best. So if you?re running late then don?t worry you?ll probably still get there in time to see them finish.

There has been a lot of e-mail?s coming in suggesting dockerland?s next dog should be called Leaping Leo. Other suggestions have been ?Four Points? and ?Gardiner should be a Gardener?
