McLeody, when you started your comments about a player not getting recognition from the last two games, I thought, here it is, finally the first mention for Van Berlo. But alas it looks like I'll have to do it myself.
Can easily be added to that list of players named earlier in this thread as being a no nonsense player and an intelligent player. JVB reads the play very well, is an excellent decision maker, superb by hand, strong in a tackle and linked to that last comment, I think the key to his success and the abovementioned players is his ability to keep his feet in a contest.
You watch Broughton, SCOS, Hayden, JVB, Barlow or Duffman and the way they keep their feet in contests, which invariably means that if it spills free or if the play continues on, you're not automatically out of the contest. It's a common trait in the (Western) Bulldogs lineup as well if you watch them closely.
