Do the Twist
#301777
It was really a home game for us.

Where Essendon had not played at the Docklands stadium since late last year, Fremantle visited twice during the pre-season competition, and found the mild and sunny conditions to their liking.

I can see the next West Poll... Should the AFL compensate the eGurls for all the travelling that have to do?

Seems like every news story about Freo for the past 3 months gleefully mentioned some major 'bogey' we had to overcome ... well, here's a quick score check so far:

First game of the season bogey - vanquished.
Etihad bogey - gone.
Teams running over us in last quarter bogey - a distant memory.
Not backing up a good win with the same intensity bogey - bah!
Not winning when Pav doesn't kick a bag bogey - bunkum!
Playing as bad as the Eagles bogey - I just made that one up cos eagles suck!

The article is really just paraphrasing something Harv's said after the game when asked whether playing the NAB cup games at Etihad helped in todays preparation. Maybe Harv's talked about the roof being open and the temperature being around 27C instead of saying 'mild and sunny' - but pretty much its one of those filler stories that comes from someone viewing, or maybe even being at the press conference.

As we're playing there a few times this year its probably good to let it be known that we think Etihad is a kind of surrogate home ground.

Harv's is generally quite understated when accepting praise for performance so as not to give the media a chance to spin anything out of control, but there's probably a fair amount of smoke and mirrors stuff required to twist things the way you want them to be twisted.

On the last point, do you reckon Hase was injured at the start of the game - sitting on a chair with the medico looking at him, or was it just something conjured up to make Knights think we were going to be one player down?

Don't the egurls have a coupla bogies...

Haven't beat freo for since rd3 2007, thats gotta be close to more than 1000 days Denni Spaghetti
and now they have the ol' leading at 3/4 time and still can't win
Playing teams with no interchange players and cant win
too many rotations and cant win...

How about the spin the commentators tried to come up with.
Along lines of Freo having a much easier last quarter against Adelaide last week whereas poor ol' Bombers were up against it versing Geelong. I swore in the presence of my daughter when they drivelled out that excuse.

Didn't Essenscum have an extra 2 days off, plus their travel involved a couple of stops of the tram going from MCG to Etihad.

And surely our last quarter of winning 5.5 to 0.4 took a lot more effort than losing 8.3 to 2.2 - its not as though you gotta go fetch the ball once the opposition kick a goal

No one expected freo to win dazza including all the commentators. When it became apparent freo had it in the bag they have to justify to each other why it is so, how it could have happened. They then jump on the bandwagon a bit until they feel better about themselves.
