Clad in purple guernsey all,
Each one prepared to fall
Awaiting all the siren sound
To echo 'round the ground
Drum beat and clanging bell
Heralded them, and then it fell
Silent in due respect
For their most loyal subject
Waiting upon the great event,
Stood there Fremantles regiment.
Down their makeshift battle line
Breath fogged and eyes did shine,
And the skin of dark red
Tone as if earth had bled
Thudded before the stands.
So given the age-old command
Leather struck like a drum
Told them their time had come
Told them which foes were sent
To face Fremantles regiment
"Freo!" came the mighty cry
"Though blood and sweat is nigh,
Let the whole nation see
What it means to be
Fremantles sons, and proud!"
Thus roared the thronging crowd,
Clad in colours much the same
As those for whom they came
What a ringing cheer there went
Up For Fremantles regiment.
