Yeah it was an interesting interview - though nothing much was said - except maybe that fans should be more circumspect when it comes to bagging players - and that (not his words) fan criticism can have adverse consequences. Which reminded me that on the same program yesterday a former female Victorian copper who specialised in online stalking/bullying recently met with our club. You can understand Harvey siding with the players - and good on him - and here Shane tends to keep a lid on things - And we are not about to roll over and not criticise players - it comes with the territory - we have had our favorite escaped goats over the years but it is worth remembering that these players are people with real emotions blah blah. I don't know the balance - maybe there isn't one and players just have to harden up a little. I can't see us adopting Harveys line that we should just cheer regardless but it is worth remembering that public criticism can be pretty hard to take and frankly I'd struggle to take it on a regular basis.

I'd never call Keps just a crap ruckman. He's the best crap ruckman in the league.

Asked about what brings him joy in today's high-pressure game, Harv's said "lots of things" but gave the example of their win on the road last year against Carlton on the Gold Coast.
Asked whether the first quarter of the season would define his career, Harvs said that it would be an "interesting year" and that the first month would be tough.
He also described how Freo was trying to "educate the media" by having a coffee and chat instead of a formal interview. I guess Hutchy couldn't get the soy frappe he wanted.

Harves has got a point about thoughtless criticism. I've followed freo footie for more than 50 years, and I'm still amazed and disgusted by the crap heaped on Freo's players by its own supporters. Five minutes into the Geelong game and it was all on again. Abuse hurled across the fence at Schammer and McPhee seemed to be the order of the day. The way I think about it is that if they're not the best players, they're the best we've got at the time, and they deserve our support and encouragement.
Freo whingers please note: you don't help and you're not wanted. There are plenty of others trying to pull us down. Why join their party?

We sat near "a supporter"? who seemed to be happy enough during the first half, but was even happier when Geelong got some momentum in the second. He seemed to enjoy bagging our players more! He also tried to get those around him to chip in with the old direct rhetorical question, but thankfully he was ignored and people refused to be drawn into conversation with him.
