This is some impression of the game I gleened from a radio call on Sport FM 91.3 that I listened to. I'd be interested to hear how accurate it is from someone who watched the game.
Ryan Murphy missed a couple early on but kicked goals at vital times in the game whenever East Perth threatened to take the lead. A couple of marks sounded like they were very good contested grabs from behind, but generally he was called as leading well and got some good supply; & early on was creating for others, as in the first half there were forward marking targets in McCarrey and Wilson as well. Later in the game, Wilson had some time in the ruck and McCarrey went into defence to cover for injured players - so those late goals Murphy got were probably more important in the context of the game, as he was more of a lone target.
Zach Clarke was nominated as one of East Perth's best players, though he made a crucial handball turnover in the third quarter that gave South a goal, just as East Perth seemed close to catching them. Souths ruckman Graham went off the ground in the second half, so Clarke was called a lot of time as winning the ruck taps, but even before that he was involved in the play a lot. He kicked the first goal of the game, and I think he missed a set shot from close range too. Generally it seemed the commentators thought his work rate and involvement in the play was the most impressive thing about his game.
Dylan Roberton was on the interchange bench on the start of game and at the start of one of the other quarters. Couldn't assess anything about his game as to where he played or who he was playing on because he was hardly mentioned in the first half (and when he was I think he was being called 'Roberston' - unless there was another player with that surname) He got more possessions towards the end of the game when the game was at its hottest. After one goal the commentators seemed to suggest that the East Perth players ran back to him for an effort he made that created a goal downfield (or upfield?).
Hamish Shepheard kicked a couple of goals, and was active in patches during the game.
For those going to the Perth v East Fremantle game at Eftel - the indication from the commentators was that Rhys Palmer would be lining up in the Reserves game.
