On paper i think we have a good list, and even though last year was disappointing for 60-70% of most games i think we dominated; but we always lapsed at some point and never had the desire to win.
Our back line has always been our strength and i think the class of the likes of Duffield and Hayden will provide us with a lot of attack out of defense. I am so glad that Pavlich will be back in the forward line where he belongs and the combination of Mayne and Ballantyne presenting and crumbing hopefully we can score a lot of goals this year.
At the moment though, i think our weakness is the midfield. We have the best ruckman in the league but don't know how to utilise him well enough and our opposing team read the play better. With the addition of Barlow and a good pre season i hope this can change.

So do we keep Bradley as back up for Sandi or do we keep Clarke in to develope him further? I say Clarke, at least he does not move like a lumbering dinasour on downers like Bradley...he has had some good games but go Clarke I say.

A tough decision, a lot of people don't think too much of Keplar but when given an opportunity he does have some tricks up his sleave ie freakish goals, specky marks. Clarke still needs a fair bit of time to develop and i think Keplay will be more useful in a game for the time being.

this is the AFL's BEST 22 which is hard to argue with...
B: Greg Broughton, Chris Tarrant, Antoni Grover
HB: Paul Duffield, Luke McPharlin, Roger Hayden
C: David Mundy, Paul Hasleby, Garrick Ibbotson
HF: Stephen Hill, Matthew Pavlich, Adam McPhee
F: Chris Mayne, Michael Johnson, Hayden Ballantyne
Foll: Aaron Sandilands, Rhys Palmer, Ryan Crowley
I/C: Kepler Bradley, Nick Suban, Des Headland, Byron Schammer
with Grover out, better start McFly down back and bring in Murphy (reasonably good pre season IMO) and if Palmer is not ready, Moro gets a start. Give Clarke full games in the twos for now.

I reckon after a few regular season games they'll be pushing someone out of that list to make way for Barlow.

If Barlow continues his good form he would have to go straight into the midfield. I just hope we havn't got ourselves into trouble by promisng Mcphee midfield opportunities when clearly he is more suited suited to a half back or half forward position.

I couldn't see any logic in leaving Barlow out for round 1, unless we enjoy letting the media get their nosehairs in an uproar, like with the Rhys Palmer omission for round 1, 2008.
But we're not here to serve the media. The kid has earned a game by being arguably our best player in March. It's a home game... time to unleash the fury.

Swede, I'm not saying he shouldn't be playing in round 1 (because he should be) but you can't put him in our list of best 22 AFL players until he's played at least 1 game in the regular season - it's a bit like counting your Natanui's before they hatch.

He's in our best 22. You will notice this when he is named for round 1 because that is when we will be naming our best 22 for round 1, not our best 22 that have at least 1 game of AFL experience.
The same AFL website assessment of Richmond had Dustin Martin on the interchange. He was drafted just before Morabito last year.

Superswede is right... Barlow is already better than Schammer so he is in our best 22 .

with the exception of those that would normally be in our best 22 but are injured and therefore won't be lining up for round 1.
I'm a huge fan of barlow but 3 great performances in the NAB cup against teams that may or may not be playing like they would and or with the personell they would in a regular season game does not put you in our best 22 at this point. I think he'll be in our best 22 but I'm going to wait and see how he performs over the first 5 or 6 games before I make that call.
